Student answer (Band 6.0)

Environmental problems are become major concern, and recycling is known as a common habbit. While some people thing recycling is sufficient to protect planet, other argue that, reducing consuption is essential. In this essay, we will discuss about both views before conclution.

On the one hand, recycling have clear benifits. It reduce the amount of waste sent to the landfills and saves natural resources by reusing materials like papers, and other material. For example recycling of tonne of papers save life of 17 trees, while the recycling is and important piece in our socity.Recycling required less energy for the production of new materials from raw, which helps to lower greenhouse gas emmition.

Therefore,it is seen as an effictive soure of environmentally responsible.

On the other hand, some people belive that recycling alone is not enough because it dose not adress the root cause of environmental damage, which is overconsuption.Recycling by itself consume energy for collection, transportation and processing, and some material can not cosume infinitly.

For intence, plastict is recycle for few time before it loss quality. If people continue throw away and buy products excessivly, the environmental impact still be huge.

Consuming few means buying fewer unnessary itmes, repairing things insted of replacing them, and choosing products with less packing. This approch directly reduces resourse extraction and wast production, which is more sustainable in the long term.

In my opinion, although recycling is valueable, reducing consumption is more effective solution. If we only recycle but keep concsuming at the current rate,we are still using too many resources. A combination of both ideal, but but priorty could br consume less, and then recycle what we can avoid from it.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both views and give a clear opinion: recycling has benefits, but reducing consumption should take priority. Relevant support includes the example of paper recycling saving trees and the explanation that recycling itself uses energy. Your suggestions to buy fewer unnecessary items, repair goods and choose less packaging also make the position practical. This meets the task well, and the opinion is clear in the conclusion. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained: the paper statistic is not connected to a specific source or context, and the discussion of recycling’s limits could explain more precisely why material quality declines or how this affects overall waste. Develop these points with clearer reasoning and a concrete example to make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a concluding opinion. The contrastive openings “On the one hand” and “On the other hand” help readers follow the discussion, and the ideas within the consumption paragraph generally move from the problem to possible actions. However, progression is sometimes weakened by mechanical or unclear linking, such as “Therefore” introducing a sentence that does not clearly follow from the preceding point, and “while” in the recycling paragraph joining ideas awkwardly. The conclusion also repeats the main position without expressing it smoothly. Use linking words only where the relationship is clear, and connect each example explicitly to the point it supports.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “landfills,” “natural resources,” “greenhouse gas emission,” “overconsumption,” and “resource extraction.” These choices show an attempt to discuss environmental issues with some specificity. However, spelling errors and inaccurate word forms are noticeable throughout, including “habbit,” “consuption,” “effictive,” and “unnessary,” and some combinations are unnatural, such as “consume infinitly” and “environmentally responsible.” These errors sometimes make the reader pause, even though the intended meaning is usually recoverable. Build accuracy by checking spelling and learning common collocations as complete phrases—for example, “reduce consumption,” “recycle materials,” and “environmentally responsible behaviour”—rather than relying on approximate forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a reason clause in “because it does not address the root cause” and a conditional structure in “If people continue…”. The overall meaning can usually be followed, but errors in verb forms, agreement, articles and sentence construction occur across the response. Examples include “Environmental problems are become,” “recycling have clear benefits,” and “A combination of both ideal.” Some sentences also have punctuation problems, particularly missing spaces after commas and run-on phrasing. These issues make the writing less controlled, although the main ideas remain understandable. Practise checking each sentence for a clear subject and finite verb, then review agreement and articles; vary sentence patterns while keeping them accurate.
