Student answer (Band 5.5)

As global warming arise, an immediate action is the important things to do and one of them is to recycle. However, some suggest that it is not the best solution and believe the we need to consume less.

As the our mother earth suffer in waste materials, people were encourage to recycle. It is one of the simpliest and easiest way to save the environment that is why more people do it. Like using used plastic bags in shopping, it does not just lessen the waste but it also lessen the production of plastic in the area. And because of this, it encourage everyone to do the same way and minimize the waste that the area produce. It is fascinating that most shops in Australia does not give you free plastic or paper bags for what you bought, perhaps, you need to pay for it and because of that, people make a habbit to bring their own bag to save money and it is a way to encourage recycling.

However, some people think that recycling is not enough. Even we keep using the same paper bags or plastic while we are in the market, they believe that it will not hide the fact the we keep buying things that is uneccesary and harmful for our environment. Like buying cloths, new shoes and other goods that is not important. Even we save some plastics in shopping but we bought 20 things in the market with plastic, it does not change the fact that we are still harming our environment.

In conclusion, recycling is the easiest form of saving our environment as it does not required to much effort and money to do it, however some people think it is not enough solution as we keep buying uneccesary made of harmful materials to our environment. I believe, no matter what technique we do to save our environment, we must do it now before its too late and the cooperation of everyone is what is matter because the more people doing the right thing the more it become effective.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and give a clear overall position: recycling is useful, but reducing consumption is also necessary. The examples about reusing shopping bags and Australian shops charging for bags make the recycling argument relevant, while the list of unnecessary purchases supports the opposing view. However, the two sides are not developed equally: the discussion of recycling includes a practical example, whereas the case for consuming less is mostly asserted rather than explained. Your conclusion calls for collective action, but it could state more directly how you balance the two approaches. To strengthen the response, explain why reducing purchases can prevent environmental harm at its source, and support this with a specific example such as buying fewer disposable products or choosing durable goods.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. The progression from recycling to the argument for consuming less is easy to follow, and signposts such as “However” and “In conclusion” help identify the stages of the discussion. At times, though, connections are mechanical or unclear. Repeated openings with “Even” and “Like” make the reasoning feel list-like, and the reference in “it encourage everyone” is not fully clear. The conclusion also repeats earlier points rather than bringing them together into a precise final position. Use a wider range of linking expressions and make each paragraph develop one central claim through explanation and example.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “recycle,” “waste materials,” “production,” and “harmful materials.” The examples are generally understandable, and phrases such as “bring their own bag” convey a practical behaviour. However, word choice and spelling errors are noticeable and sometimes make the expression less natural: “global warming arise,” “simpliest,” “habbit,” and “uneccesary” are examples. Some phrases are also imprecise, such as “save the environment” and “things that is not important.” Aim for more accurate collocations and a broader range of environmental terms, such as “reduce waste,” “limit consumption,” and “single-use packaging.” Proofreading spelling and word forms would make your ideas clearer and more fluent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “as,” “that,” and “because,” and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction occur across the response. For example, “the our mother earth suffer” and “most shops … does not give” show problems with articles and subject–verb agreement; “it does not required” has an incorrect verb form. Some long sentences join several ideas without clear grammatical control, particularly the sentence beginning “Even we save some plastics.” Practise building accurate complex sentences, checking that subjects and verbs agree, and using correct tense and article forms. Clearer sentence boundaries will also help readers follow your reasoning.
