Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge and experience.

Student answer (Band 5.0)

Environment is something that we all share. Environment is disturbed to the alarming rate and most people support recycling to tackle this issue whereas others believe consuming less than usual is better option .

there are two school of thoughts but in my opinion recycling is better solution for environmental problems. one of the strongest reason is that by recycling the waste of different kinds we can make several new products that are eventually helping in improving economy of the country. for instance wastewater from ponds or rivers is filtered and treated and used world wide.

another important reason behind choosing recycling is by this process things or the products become more valuable and it also helps to make the environment more clean.

on the other hand decline in consumption of products is less favourable due to reason that it is not practical.we can't ask people to not use specific products because everyone has their own choices and decisions.

to conclude my debate i would say that everyone should be given freedom to chose their way of protect their environment.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You give a clear opinion that recycling is preferable, and you include a reason about turning waste into new products, with wastewater treatment as an example. However, the task asks you to discuss both views, and the argument for consuming less is only briefly dismissed as impractical; it is not explained or supported with an example. Your recycling points are also under-developed: for instance, the claim that recycling makes products “more valuable” needs clarification. The conclusion repeats your preference but does not fully resolve the comparison. The response is 70 words below the required minimum, which limits the space available to address both sides and develop your reasoning. Explain the benefits of reducing consumption as well as recycling, then support your position with specific examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph supporting recycling, a contrasting paragraph, and a conclusion. Linking phrases such as “on the other hand” and “to conclude” help signal the direction of the discussion. However, progression within the paragraphs is limited, and several ideas are presented without enough explanation to show how they connect. The recycling paragraph moves from economic benefits to cleaner surroundings without developing the relationship between them. The contrast paragraph is especially brief, so the two views are not balanced. Some transitions also feel formulaic. To improve, organise each body paragraph around one main claim, explain its consequences, and use a relevant example before moving to the next point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “recycling,” “wastewater,” “filtered and treated,” and “consumption,” which makes the subject clear. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “school of thoughts” and “less favourable.” However, the range is limited and several expressions are inaccurate or unnatural, including “disturbed to the alarming rate,” “better option,” and “make the environment more clean.” These choices sometimes make the intended meaning less precise. Spelling and word-form control also need attention, as in “world wide” and “chose” where the intended form is “choose.” Build a wider set of accurate environmental collocations and check whether each phrase sounds natural in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including a contrast introduced by “whereas” and a reason clause beginning “because.” Most of the main ideas remain understandable, but grammatical errors are frequent and sometimes make the sentences difficult to follow. For example, “there are two school of thoughts” has a number-agreement problem, while “one of the strongest reason is” also needs plural agreement. Articles and sentence boundaries are inconsistent, as in “better option” and the opening run-on sentence. The final sentence, “freedom to chose their way of protect,” contains errors in verb form and sentence pattern. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement, articles, and infinitive structures, then proofread each sentence for a complete, clear construction.
