Student answer (Band 5.0)

Concern for the environment is growing and more and more people are choosing to recycle and on the other hand few people suggest that recycling is not enough. I agree with the second opinion.

People are trying to recycle the things and also trying to consume less to save the enviornment from pollution. With this concern for instance, Nestle (the company) tried their best by using paper straws instead of plastic ones and honstly, this is very encourigng for other brands because after seeing them alot of other companies are doing the same and it safes the enviornment from alot of platic. I might be wrong but I also heard about this they made a seating bench in some park with full of plastic in terms of recycling. There are few more people who are spreading the awareness of recyling the products.

Besides that, I agree with that still enviornment is getting polluted and people are not recycling in that amount in which they are consuming. Furthermore, it not only polluting the air it also increases the health issues. People are suffering from so many dieases because of this. In fact, doctors are suggesting to not use anythings made up of plastic. People are doing things to safe the enviornment. But, still it is comparatively small.

In my opinion, individuals and the companies both have to contribute to safe the air from bad things and do as much recycling as possible. moreover, less consumption is also important and additionally, try to grow more trees to protect the enviornment from polluted things.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You state a clear opinion—“I agree with the second opinion”—and refer to recycling, reduced consumption, and environmental protection. However, the two views are not discussed in a balanced or sufficiently developed way: most of the first body paragraph lists recycling examples, while the case for consuming less is asserted rather than explained with a specific reason or example. The bench example is uncertain (“I might be wrong”), which weakens its support, and the conclusion adds tree planting without developing the central comparison. The response is 246 words, four words below the 250-word minimum; the 15 words copied from the task prompt are not counted. Develop each view with a clear explanation and relevant evidence.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a concluding opinion. Paragraphs broadly group related points, and transitions such as “Besides that” and “Furthermore” show an attempt to connect ideas. However, progression within paragraphs is often loose: the first moves from company straws to a park bench and then general awareness without explaining how these examples support the discussion. Linking phrases are sometimes mechanical or do not express the relationship clearly, as in “Besides that” and “In fact.” The conclusion also introduces tree planting rather than drawing together the two views. Organise each body paragraph around one main claim, then connect its explanation and example explicitly.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “recycle,” “consume less,” “plastic,” “pollution,” and “health issues,” so the main subject is generally clear. There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “paper straws” and “seating bench.” However, the range is limited and several inaccurate or repetitive choices reduce precision: “safe the environment” is repeated where “protect” is intended, and “bad things” is too vague for an academic argument. Spelling errors such as “enviornment,” “honstly,” “encourigng,” and “dieases” are noticeable. Build a wider set of accurate environmental collocations and check spelling, while replacing vague expressions with precise descriptions.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, including a reason clause in “because after seeing them…” and a contrast introduced by “But, still…”. The overall meaning is usually recoverable, but complex sentences are often faulty or incomplete. For example, “I also heard about this they made a seating bench” lacks a clear grammatical connection between the clauses, while “it not only polluting the air” is missing an auxiliary verb. Other problems include “people are not recycling in that amount in which they are consuming” and inconsistent sentence punctuation and capitalisation, such as “moreover” after a full stop. Practise building complete clauses and using conjunctions accurately; then proofread verb forms, articles, and sentence boundaries.
