Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent years, concern for the environment is growing and a significant proportion of people are now consuming recycle method. Many people argue that recycling is an effective way, while others believe that it is not sufficient and that people should reduce their overall consumption. In my opinion, both approaches are important, but consuming less should be main priority.

On the one hand, recycling plays a major role in environmental protection. Recycling methods help people understand the requirement of environmental protection and also provide sustainable habits. As a result, people learn the manners to live in the world and also have an habit to protect it. Moreover, Recycling methods also reduces pollution. People recycle plastic, paper and waste which reduces the pollution on the land. This helps people from different health-related problems and also clear the environment of the country. For example, In Europe, there was a recycle machine which takes in the plastic and returns money. This encourage more people to recycle and also reduces pollution.

On the other hand, The main aim should be to consume less. If people reduces the use of the harmful products, the manufacturing and consuming also be reduced. For instance, people use the reusable bags which reduces the production of the plastic bags. This not only reduces the pollution but also reduces the cost of manufacturing. Furthermore, governments should also work on other aspects such as economic benefits and healthcare rather than working for the waste.

In conclusion, although recycling methods are effective to protect environment, I believe people should have to consume less as it provides environmental benefits and also reduces the manufacturing cost.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and state a clear position: recycling is useful, but reducing consumption should be the priority. The recycling paragraph gives relevant reasons, including reduced pollution and the European machine that returns money for plastic. The reusable-bag example also supports your argument for consuming less. However, some points are not developed clearly enough. For example, the claim that recycling teaches people “the manners to live in the world” is vague, and the point about governments focusing on economic benefits and healthcare rather than waste is not explained or clearly connected to the discussion. Develop these ideas with a specific explanation or example, and make the comparison between recycling and consumption reduction more explicit.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion that restates your opinion. Linking phrases such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the progression. The examples are generally placed alongside the points they support. To make the organisation more effective, improve the links between some claims: the sentence about governments prioritising healthcare and economic benefits appears abruptly and does not clearly follow from the argument about consuming less. There is also some repetitive use of “also” and “reduces.” More varied referencing and transitions between cause, example, and result would make the cohesion less mechanical.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant environmental vocabulary, including “recycling,” “environmental protection,” “pollution,” “reusable bags,” and “manufacturing,” so the main ideas are understandable. There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “health-related problems” and “overall consumption.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, including “consuming recycle method,” “an habit,” and “clear the environment of the country.” Repetition of “reduces” and “people” also limits the range. Aim for precise, natural combinations such as “adopt recycling practices,” “reduce pollution,” and “improve environmental quality.” This would make your vocabulary more flexible and help express the argument clearly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mixture of simple sentences and longer structures, including conditional phrasing (“If people reduces the use…”) and a relative clause (“which takes in the plastic and returns money”). Most of the meaning remains clear, but some errors in agreement, articles, and verb forms recur. For example, “recycling methods also reduces” should have a plural verb, while “people reduces” should be “people reduce”; “an habit” also has an article error. In “the manufacturing and consuming also be reduced,” the verb construction is incomplete. Capitalisation after sentence openings is inconsistent, as in “Recycling” and “The” mid-paragraph. Check subject–verb agreement and build complex sentences around complete, correctly formed clauses.
