Student answer (Band 5.0)

Yes, nowadays pollution is increasing rapidly and peoples are recycling to control pollution.

Pollution is the growing threat for our country and i also think that we should recycle products but recycling is not enough for example, if we talk about air pollution we should low the use of cars and bikes because by that way we can reduce the air pollution we should prioritize public transpot or we should use electric cars or bikes because they don't produce any smoke and we should grow trees and we should apply filter on chimnies because these filters clean the smoke on chimnies.

Government also should take strict actions on pollution by educating peoples or by making strict fines on people who cause the pollution for example, in our country some people through there garbage bags on roads instead of throwing in bins authorities should take strict actions against these people.

If we talk about water pollution many factories through there chemicals in river so the river water gets contaminated and the fishes in rivers die this also cause pollution authorities should also take action against these kind of people and should give them heavy fines authorities should setup a seperate department for that.

Pollution is one of the main problem of our country and it causes many diseases and many other viral infections know we should open our eyes and we should put our role to stop pollution. If we talk about religious point of view Cleenleness is half our religion atleast we should implement on our religion and we should take steps or put our effort to stop pollution.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response is relevant to environmental protection and gives a clear view that recycling alone is insufficient. It offers practical examples, including reducing car use, planting trees, and controlling factory waste. However, the prompt asks you to discuss both recycling and consuming less, and the essay mainly lists ways to reduce pollution rather than explaining the benefits or limitations of recycling or directly developing the case for lower consumption. Your position is present, but it is not fully supported as an answer to both sides of the discussion. To strengthen the response, explain how recycling helps conserve resources, then compare this with reducing consumption at source, using a specific example to support your opinion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is some organisation: the response moves from air pollution to government action, then water pollution and a concluding appeal. The examples are generally connected to the broad topic. However, the progression is not consistently clear because several different points are joined into long strings, often with repeated “and” or “should.” The repeated openings “If we talk about…” also make the development feel mechanical, while the final paragraph introduces a religious point without clearly linking it to the discussion of recycling and consumption. Use distinct paragraphs for the two views and your opinion, and connect each example explicitly to the point it supports. This would make the overall argument easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses a basic range of topic vocabulary, including “air pollution,” “contaminated,” “factories,” “filters,” and “heavy fines,” so the reader can understand the general subject. Some choices are imprecise or repetitive, however, and errors in spelling and word form are noticeable: “transpot,” “chimnies,” “seperate,” and “Cleenleness.” Phrases such as “put our role” and “stop pollution” are also not natural in this context. Aim to use more precise environmental language and check spelling carefully. For example, “reduce emissions” is more specific than “control pollution,” while “play our part” expresses the intended meaning more naturally than “put our role.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response communicates its main ideas using mostly simple clauses and some attempts to link reasons and examples. However, the range of sentence structures is limited, and longer sentences are often difficult to control. For instance, the sentence beginning “If we talk about air pollution” runs through several recommendations without clear sentence boundaries. There are also recurring errors in agreement and sentence construction, as in “this also cause pollution” and “many factories through there chemicals,” which make parts of the message less clear. Practise separating ideas into complete sentences, and check subject–verb agreement, articles, and plural forms. A few accurately controlled complex sentences would help express cause and effect more clearly.
