Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge and experience.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

Environment is growing and human population increases in an uncontrolled manner. Recycling is a process in which usuable substance is change into original form and other items.Less consumption of items is also a solution which targets the reduction in usuage of products unless their need is mandatory. The main objective of both ideologies is basically enhancing the quality of living on this planet.

Recycling is a conventional process for non degradable items which cannot be used again and again .Plastic bottles, bags.sheets and other wastes are non- biodegradable items. The plastic is melted and new items are created from it.Many rusty containers are painted and engineers recycled them .Car tyres are recycled by factories .

Less consumption of daily items is also a good method. We don't use plastic bags and choose their alternatives for our work. This activity reduces the plastic waste in environment. We do not use plenty of disposable items .We have to reduce the consumption of fossil fuels. We can use bicycles instead of cars.We can use public transport .

Recycling and Reduce ,both methods are playing vital role in my opinion. The main thing that I would suggest is that awareness is important about pollution and waste.People have proper awareness so they will take action in their daily life. They will use cloth bags for shopping instead of plastic bags. They will not use private transport.Pollution is controlled by this method.Recycling industries are financed by government. Many non profit organizations are working on it. They are cleaning the environment and reducing the air pollution factor.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses both views: it explains recycling through examples such as plastic bottles and car tyres, and discusses reducing consumption through cloth bags, bicycles and public transport. It also gives a position, stating that both methods are important and that awareness is central. However, the discussion remains limited and does not fully explain why recycling may be insufficient or compare its impact with consuming less. Some claims, such as “Pollution is controlled by this method,” are asserted rather than supported. Develop the contrast between the two approaches and explain your own view more directly—for example, why reducing demand can prevent waste before recycling is needed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs on recycling and reduced consumption, and a concluding paragraph combining the ideas. This helps the reader identify the main topics. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes list-like, particularly in the examples of alternatives to plastic and transport. Connections between points are limited, and the final paragraph introduces awareness, government funding and non-profit organisations without clearly showing how these support the central comparison. Use linking phrases to explain cause and effect, and make each paragraph develop one main point before moving to the next. Clearer references to the two approaches would also strengthen the overall flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The response uses relevant topic vocabulary, including “non-biodegradable,” “fossil fuels,” “disposable items” and “public transport,” and these terms help communicate the subject. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “the main objective” and “vital role.” However, the range is limited and some word choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward, including “Environment is growing,” “usuage of products” and “air pollution factor.” Spelling errors such as “usuable” and “degradable” also reduce precision. Aim for natural, accurate environmental collocations and check spelling; this will make the argument easier to follow without changing its ideas.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response mainly uses simple sentences, with a few attempts to combine ideas, such as “Less consumption of daily items is also a good method” followed by examples. Meaning is generally recoverable, but frequent errors in sentence structure, verb forms, agreement and punctuation make the writing uneven. For example, “usuable substance is change” has problems with the article, number and verb form, while “People have proper awareness so they will take action” needs clearer clause structure. Several sentences are fragments or lack a clear grammatical connection, and spacing around punctuation is inconsistent. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then add controlled complex forms using “because,” “which” and “although.”
