The charts below show the number of French adults whose parents spoke a French regional language to them when they were children and the number who speak a French regional language to their own children.

The bar charts illustrate the comparison between the number of French adults whose parents spoke a French regional language to them when they were young and the number who do the same thing to their own children. Units are measured in thousands.

Overall, it can be seen that the number of people who had a linguistic environment when they were childen is in direct proportion to the number of people who speak a French regional language to their children except the number of people who speak Alsatian.

The majority of parents spoke Occitan occationally, at nearly 1.1 million, whereas only about 510 thousand spoke it habitually.
