Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which negatively impacts the score. While you have attempted to describe the charts, the information is presented in a fragmented way, and the data points are often unclear or inaccurate (e.g., the reference to '600,000' and the parenthetical '250' lacks context). The overview is present but lacks clarity, and the comparison between the two charts is underdeveloped. To improve, ensure you clearly identify the key trends and provide accurate data points for all categories mentioned. The report needs to be more comprehensive to fully address the task requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is hindered by awkward phrasing and unclear transitions. While you use some cohesive devices like 'Overall' and 'In addition', the connection between sentences is often weak. The referencing is sometimes confusing, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the two charts. To improve, focus on using a wider range of cohesive devices more naturally and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus that links back to the main topic. Improving the structure of your sentences will help the overall progression of your ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is limited and contains several errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'occation' instead of 'Occitan' and 'juvenile' used incorrectly to describe adults. There is also a lack of variety in the language used to describe trends and figures. To achieve a higher band score, you should aim to use more precise terminology for describing data, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'accounted for'. Additionally, ensure you proofread for spelling errors and use words that are appropriate for an academic report context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains frequent grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('Alsatian and Occitan parents... were', 'records 5 times'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are awkward or incomplete, which occasionally impedes clarity. While there is an attempt to use complex structures, they are often inaccurate. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and subject-verb agreement. Practice using a mix of simple and complex sentences, ensuring that your grammar is accurate before attempting more sophisticated structures. Proofreading for basic punctuation and capitalization is also essential.
