Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the task by describing the provided data, but it lacks an overview or summary of the main trends. The information is presented as a list of individual data points rather than a comparative analysis. While the figures are generally accurate, the lack of grouping or synthesis makes it difficult for the reader to grasp the overall picture. To improve, you should group related data points and highlight significant differences or similarities between the two charts, rather than listing every figure sequentially. An introductory statement and a concluding overview are essential for a higher band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response lacks paragraphing, which makes it difficult to follow the progression of ideas. The text is essentially one long block, which hinders readability. While there is some attempt to use cohesive devices like 'on the other hand' and 'second language', the transitions are often mechanical or repetitive. The logical flow is hampered by the lack of clear structure between the two different charts. To improve, you should organize your report into distinct paragraphs: an introduction, an overview of the main trends, and two body paragraphs that compare and contrast the specific data points.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. You frequently use the same phrases, such as 'is spoken by' and 'parents to their child'. There is little evidence of a range of vocabulary suitable for describing data, such as 'proportion', 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'significant difference'. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of variety in word choice prevents the response from demonstrating a higher level of lexical control. Try to incorporate more precise verbs and nouns related to statistical reporting to improve your range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains several grammatical errors, including issues with articles ('a different kind of languages'), subject-verb agreement, and sentence structure. Many sentences are simple or repetitive in their construction. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, which limits the grammatical range. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of capital letters and sentence boundaries. To improve, focus on using a variety of sentence types, such as complex sentences with relative clauses or subordinating conjunctions, and pay closer attention to basic grammatical accuracy and proofreading.
