Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. While you have attempted to describe the data, the report is incomplete and lacks a clear, accurate summary of the trends. Several figures are presented without sufficient context or clear comparison, and the final sentence contains a factual contradiction regarding which languages have the highest proportion. To improve, ensure you cover all data points clearly, provide a more accurate overview, and meet the length requirement to allow for full development of the information provided in the charts.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is often disjointed. While you use some cohesive devices like 'Turning to details' and 'Furthermore', the transitions between sentences are sometimes mechanical or confusing. The referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly when discussing the figures for different languages. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words to connect your ideas more fluidly and ensure that each paragraph has a clear focus, such as grouping the data logically by category rather than listing figures in a way that feels repetitive or disconnected.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive, often relying on basic verbs like 'showed', 'recorded', and 'witnessed'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'Breton spoken on special events' and 'highest proportion of speaking language', which are not natural English expressions. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use a more varied range of vocabulary to describe trends and data, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'a significant decline'. Focus on using precise terminology for statistical reporting to avoid ambiguity.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'the proportion of the French adults' (unnecessary article), 'adults speaking of Alsatian' (incorrect preposition), and 'Breton and creole witnessed a highest proportion' (incorrect article usage). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but the sentence structure is often fragmented. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Practising more complex sentence structures, such as using relative clauses or comparative forms, will help improve your range and accuracy.
