The two bar charts compare the number of french adult, in thousands , who were exposed to regional language in childhood by their parents, and those who currently pass on a regional language to their own children.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to address the task but fails to provide a comprehensive overview. While it mentions the two charts, the data presentation is inaccurate and incomplete. For instance, the student claims Occitan was the most common at 6,000,000, which is a significant misreading of the provided data (likely confusing units or misinterpreting the scale). Furthermore, the report lacks a clear comparison between the two charts, which is the core requirement of the task. The conclusion is also somewhat disconnected from the data provided. To improve, ensure you accurately transcribe figures and provide a clear, analytical overview that highlights key trends and differences between the two sets of data.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes misused, such as 'In one hand' (should be 'On the one hand') and 'Thanking you for alot my speaker' (which is irrelevant and inappropriate for an academic report). The transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs is abrupt. While there is a basic structure, the lack of clear linking between the data points makes the information difficult to follow. Improving the use of cohesive devices and ensuring each paragraph has a clear focus would enhance the overall flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and contains several errors that impede clarity. There are frequent spelling mistakes such as 'french' (should be capitalized), 'parentsal', 'theor', and 'comman'. The word choice is often imprecise, such as 'alot my speaker', which is nonsensical in this context. While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'regional language' and 'prevalent', the overall range is insufficient to convey the information with precision. More attention to accurate spelling and the use of academic collocations is necessary to reach a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but grammatical errors are frequent and sometimes affect readability. Examples include 'number of french adult' (should be plural 'adults'), 'were spoken to the regional language' (incorrect passive construction), and 'significant fewer' (should be 'significantly fewer'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the placement of commas. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction limits the score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct prepositional usage would be beneficial.
