Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the charts, but the presentation is significantly hindered by unclear data reporting and inaccuracies. While you identify the highest and lowest categories, the description of the data is often confusing, such as the mention of '650 thousand and 1.1 million' for Alsatian, which does not clearly distinguish between the two charts. Furthermore, the report lacks a clear overview of the trends, and some data points are missing or poorly integrated, such as the incomplete sentence regarding Creole. To improve, ensure you clearly label which chart you are describing and provide accurate data comparisons that are easy for the reader to follow.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is often disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical or misused, such as the abrupt transition 'While, when they become parents' and the fragmented sentence 'While creole has 100 thousand'. The referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult to follow the comparison between the two charts. To improve, focus on using a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'in contrast', 'conversely', 'furthermore') and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, logical focus that connects back to the main topic.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The range of vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive, with frequent spelling errors that occasionally impede readability (e.g., 'alstian', 'habiyually', 'thosand', 'recored'). You rely on basic descriptors and struggle with precise terminology for describing data trends. There is a lack of variety in how you express numbers and comparisons. To reach a higher band, you should work on spelling accuracy and incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary for describing statistical changes, such as 'accounted for', 'represented', 'a significant proportion', or 'a marginal figure'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('The graph display', 'The numbers alstian has accounted'), missing articles, and incorrect word forms ('prferred to spoke kids'). Sentence structures are generally simple, and attempts at more complex sentences often result in errors that affect clarity. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring subject-verb agreement, and proofreading for common errors like missing articles and incorrect verb tenses.
