Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the ability to fully address the task. The report is underdeveloped and lacks a comprehensive overview of the data provided in the charts. While you identified some specific figures, such as the 600 for Alsatian, the analysis is fragmented and fails to compare the two distinct sets of data (parents speaking to children vs. children speaking to their own offspring) as requested by the prompt. To improve, you must ensure you cover all parts of the task, provide a clear overview of the main trends, and support your descriptions with accurate data points while meeting the length requirement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response lacks a logical structure. While there is an attempt at an introduction and a body paragraph, the progression of ideas is disjointed. Cohesive devices are largely absent, making the transition between sentences feel abrupt. For example, the jump from the overall trend to specific language data lacks a clear linking phrase. Paragraphing is present but ineffective due to the brevity of the text. To improve, focus on using transition signals such as 'In contrast,' 'Furthermore,' or 'Regarding the data for...' to guide the reader through your analysis and ensure each paragraph has a clear, unified focus.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is somewhat limited and occasionally inaccurate. Phrases like 'best range to about 650' and 'excellent range' are imprecise and do not effectively describe statistical data. There are also errors in word choice, such as using 'elders' to refer to parents or ancestors, which is contextually confusing. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to demonstrate flexibility or precision. To improve, incorporate more academic collocations related to data description, such as 'the figure for,' 'accounted for,' or 'a significant proportion,' and ensure that your terminology accurately reflects the information presented in the charts.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains several grammatical errors that hinder clarity. There are issues with article usage ('the graph'), subject-verb agreement, and awkward phrasing, such as 'what stands out of the graph was that all languages had different ranges'. Sentence structures are mostly simple, and there is a lack of complex grammatical forms. Punctuation is generally functional, but the overall control of grammar is weak. To improve, practice constructing more complex sentences using subordinating conjunctions and ensure consistent verb tense usage when describing data. Proofreading for basic errors like missing articles or incorrect prepositions will also help raise your score.
