Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to describe the charts but fails to provide a clear, analytical overview. While it identifies some languages, it lacks specific data points (figures in thousands) to support the descriptions, which is essential for a Task 1 report. The comparison between the two charts is vague, and the information is presented in a single, dense paragraph rather than a structured report format. To improve, you must select key features, provide specific numerical data from the charts, and ensure the information is grouped logically to allow for a clear comparison between the two sets of data.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response suffers from a lack of paragraphing, which makes it difficult to follow. The text is essentially one long, run-on sentence structure with very limited use of cohesive devices. Transitions between ideas are weak, often relying on simple conjunctions like 'and' or 'while'. To reach a higher band, you should organise your report into clear paragraphs: an introduction, an overview of the main trends, and two body paragraphs detailing specific data points. Using a wider variety of linking words such as 'in contrast', 'furthermore', and 'consequently' would significantly improve the flow and logical progression of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. Phrases such as 'talk them in regional language' and 'most people likes to speak it' are imprecise and grammatically awkward. There is a lack of academic register, and the range of vocabulary is insufficient to describe trends or data effectively. To improve, focus on learning collocations related to data description, such as 'a significant proportion', 'a downward trend', or 'the most prevalent language'. Additionally, ensure you use accurate terminology for the data provided, such as 'habitually' and 'occasionally', rather than repeating simple verbs.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that impede readability. There are significant issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'adults does not speaks'), missing articles (e.g., 'in regional language'), and incorrect sentence structure. The text lacks complex sentence forms, relying instead on long, poorly punctuated strings of clauses. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring that subjects and verbs agree, and using appropriate punctuation to separate distinct ideas. Practising the use of relative clauses and passive voice would also help you move toward more complex and accurate sentence structures.
