Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to address the task but fails to provide a clear or accurate overview of the data. The description of the charts is confusing, and the figures cited are often inaccurate or poorly contextualized. For instance, the report struggles to distinguish between the two different categories (parents' language vs. own children's language) and misinterprets the scale of the data. The information is presented in a fragmented way, making it difficult for the reader to grasp the main trends. To improve, you must ensure that you clearly identify the key features and compare the data points accurately rather than listing numbers in a disjointed manner.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is organized into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is often illogical. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes incorrect, such as the misuse of 'At first glance' and 'Moving further' to introduce data points rather than logical sections. Referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult to follow which language or category is being discussed. The lack of clear transitions between sentences and paragraphs hinders the overall flow of the report. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear, unified focus would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The range of vocabulary is limited and repetitive. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'at the peak position' and 'extremely lowest proportion'. The phrasing is often awkward, which occasionally impedes the clarity of the information. You rely heavily on basic descriptors and struggle to use more precise terminology to describe trends or statistical data. To reach a higher band, you should focus on learning collocations related to data description, such as 'a significant decline', 'remained stable', or 'the highest proportion', and ensure you use them accurately in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('The given table provide'), missing articles, and incorrect verb tenses ('adults that spoken'). Sentence structures are often simplistic or fragmented, and there are errors in punctuation that affect readability. While some complex structures are attempted, they are often inaccurate, leading to confusion. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring correct verb forms, and proofreading for common errors like missing 'the' or 'a'. Consistent practice with sentence variety will help you move beyond simple, error-prone structures.
