Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the charts, but the presentation of data is often unclear and lacks precision. While you identify some trends, the comparisons between the languages are confusingly phrased, such as 'the number of adults who spoke occasionally had highest proportion in Occitan'. The report struggles to clearly distinguish between the two categories (childhood vs. own children) and the specific figures provided are often difficult to follow or inaccurate based on the provided charts. To improve, ensure you group data logically and use precise language to describe trends rather than listing numbers in a disjointed manner.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is frequently interrupted by awkward phrasing and a lack of cohesive devices. Transitions between sentences are often missing or mechanical, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison. For instance, the second paragraph jumps between different languages without a clear logical flow. While there is an attempt at an overview, the lack of clear signposting makes the structure feel disjointed. Using a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'in contrast', 'furthermore', 'consequently') would help improve the flow of information.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, which restricts the clarity of your report. You rely heavily on basic terms like 'number', 'figure', and 'had', which prevents a more sophisticated analysis of the data. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'the Corsican had least' and 'the Alsatian on top'. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more varied vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'predominant', 'a significant decline', or 'a marginal increase', and ensure that nouns and adjectives are used correctly in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement, missing articles (e.g., 'the Corsican had least'), and awkward sentence structures (e.g., 'The Alsatian on top who speak regional language to their own children'). The range of sentence structures is quite limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences with errors in tense and preposition usage. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like missing 'the' before nouns and ensuring verbs agree with their subjects.
