Student answer (Band 6.0)
The charts illustrates the number of adults whose parents spoke various French languages to them consistently and partially when they were younger and the amount that now speak same languages to their own children.
Overall, Alsatian and Occitan were mostly spoken consistently by parents to their young children, as well as Occitan being the most occasionally spoken French language also. On the other hand, a large number of adults also speak Alsatian language most to their own children.
From the information provided, 600 thousand adults spoke Alsatian and Occitan languages to their children constantly when they were growing up, whereas around 210 thousand parents spoke Alsatian less frequently. Occitan language also took the highest as over a million parents spoke it occasionally to their children. Meanwhile, Breton, Creole and Corsican languages were least spoken consistently with about 180 thousand, approximately 100 thousand and around 80 thousand respectively. However, occasionally spoken creole and Corsican accounted for about 110 thousand and 100 thousand respectively.
Furthermore, around 400 parents now speak Alsatian to their children own children, followed by Occitan language with about 250 thousand adults speaking to their children. Breton, Creole and Corsican language are the least spoken with approximately 100 thousand, 80 thousand, and about 50 thousand respectively.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all parts of the task by describing the two charts provided. You have successfully identified key trends, such as the high frequency of Alsatian and Occitan in both categories. However, the report lacks a clear overview of the comparison between the two charts. While you mention some figures, the analysis could be more precise; for instance, you state '400 parents' in the final paragraph, but the data is in thousands, which is a significant error in data interpretation. To reach a higher band, ensure that all units are correctly cited and that the overview highlights the general decline or shift in language usage between the two generations.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs focusing on the two different charts. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Meanwhile', 'Furthermore', and 'On the other hand' to link ideas. However, the progression of ideas is occasionally mechanical, and some referencing is unclear, such as the phrase 'the amount that now speak same languages'. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer back to their antecedents would enhance the flow of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'consistently', 'frequently', and 'respectively'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'the amount that now speak same languages' (should be 'the number who now speak the same languages') and 'Occitan language also took the highest' (should be 'Occitan was the most common'). There is also a minor error in 'Alsatian language most to their own children'. Expanding your range of descriptive verbs and adverbs would help convey the data more precisely.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'The charts illustrates' (subject-verb agreement), 'to their children own children' (repetition/syntax error), and missing articles before language names. These errors do not impede communication, but they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed with correct prepositional phrases and articles.
