Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response attempts to describe the provided charts but fails to accurately report the data. There are significant issues with data interpretation, such as misidentifying the languages and misreading the figures (e.g., claiming 600 and 1m for categories that do not align with the provided visual information). The overview is vague and lacks a clear summary of the main trends. Furthermore, the response fails to clearly distinguish between the two charts—parents speaking to children versus adults speaking to their own children—resulting in a confusing presentation of information. To improve, focus on accurately transcribing the data points and grouping them logically to highlight key comparisons rather than listing numbers in isolation.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and often misused, such as the repetitive use of 'it is evident that' at the start of every paragraph. Referencing is unclear; for example, the transition 'Moving towards' is unnatural and does not effectively link the two charts. The internal structure of the sentences is often disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the two sets of data. More varied linking words and a clearer focus on the relationship between the two charts are needed to improve the flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.5

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. There are frequent errors in spelling and word choice, such as 'pupil' used instead of 'children', and various misspellings of language names like 'broton', 'crwollw', and 'corsican'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to describe the data precisely; for instance, using 'vast' and 'lowest' without proper context or comparative structure limits the clarity of the report. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using accurate terminology for data description, such as 'proportion', 'significant', 'minority', and 'majority', and ensure that proper nouns are spelled correctly based on the prompt.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'the number of individuals who speaks' and 'their number was maximum'. Punctuation is also problematic, with unnecessary full stops placed in the middle of sentences (e.g., 'it is evident that. the adult parents'). The sentence structures are mostly simple or incorrectly formed complex sentences. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring that subjects and verbs agree and that punctuation is used correctly to separate independent clauses. Reducing the number of run-on sentences and fragments will significantly improve the readability of your writing.
