Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to describe the charts but fails to provide a clear or accurate overview. The introduction is confusing, and the data selection is problematic; you have not clearly distinguished between the two charts (parents speaking to children vs. adults speaking to their own children). Furthermore, the data points mentioned (e.g., '600', '180') are not clearly linked to the specific categories or the correct chart, making it difficult for the reader to follow the trends. To improve, ensure you clearly identify the two distinct sets of data and provide a more structured comparison of the key features rather than listing isolated figures.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The use of cohesive devices is limited and often inaccurate, such as 'In first graph' and 'In second graph', which are grammatically incomplete. The transition between sentences is often abrupt, and the lack of clear referencing makes it difficult to track which data point is being discussed. To improve, use a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'In contrast', 'Furthermore', 'Conversely') and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that guides the reader through the data.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. You rely on basic terms like 'figures', 'categories', and 'higher/lower'. There are also issues with word choice and word formation, such as 'younge' instead of 'young people' or 'adults', and 'decrise' instead of 'decreased'. The lack of precise terminology to describe trends (e.g., 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', 'witnessed a decline') hinders the clarity of the report. Expanding your vocabulary to include more academic descriptors for data trends will significantly improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the response that occasionally impede communication. Examples include missing articles ('In first graph'), incorrect verb forms ('Alsatian was decrise'), and sentence fragments ('There were three categories language such as...'). The sentence structures are mostly simple, and there is a lack of complex sentence forms. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring every sentence has a clear subject and verb, and work on using articles and prepositions correctly. Proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement will also help reduce the frequency of errors.
