Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response attempts to describe the charts but fails to provide a clear or accurate overview. The data presentation is fragmented and lacks the necessary precision required for an Academic Task 1 report. For instance, the description of the figures is confusing, and the distinction between the two charts (parents speaking to children vs. adults speaking to their own children) is not clearly articulated. The information is presented in a way that makes it difficult for the reader to follow the trends or compare the categories effectively. To improve, you must clearly identify the key features and provide accurate data points rather than listing them in a disjointed manner.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.5
The essay lacks logical progression. While there is an attempt at paragraphing, the internal structure of the paragraphs is weak. Cohesive devices are either missing or used incorrectly, such as 'then last and finally', which makes the flow of information mechanical and difficult to follow. The referencing is unclear, particularly when referring to the different languages and the two distinct charts. The lack of clear transitions between the introduction, body, and conclusion means that the reader struggles to understand the relationship between the ideas presented. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear focus would significantly enhance the coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
The vocabulary is very limited and often repetitive. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'spoke a regional language to the childhood' and 'more highly language speak'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the information accurately. You rely on basic terms and struggle to use appropriate terminology for describing charts, such as 'trends', 'figures', or 'proportions'. To reach a higher band, you need to expand your vocabulary to include more precise terms for describing data and ensure that your word choices are grammatically appropriate for the context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are significant issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'The line graphs illustrates'), sentence structure, and punctuation. Many sentences are fragmented or lack a clear subject and verb. The use of complex structures is attempted but is consistently faulty, leading to confusion. For example, 'Whose parents spoke a regional language to the childhood' is not a complete sentence. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring that every sentence has a clear subject and verb, and proofreading for common errors in tense and word order.
