Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to describe the data, but it fails to accurately represent the provided information. There are significant discrepancies between the figures in the charts and the numbers cited in the text (e.g., stating Occitan increased to 1 million when the chart shows a different trend, and misinterpreting the units). The overview is present but lacks clarity due to these factual inaccuracies. To improve, ensure that data points are read precisely from the charts and that the comparison between the two charts is clearly distinguished. The response addresses the task requirements but the lack of accuracy in reporting the data limits the score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes confusing due to the inaccurate data reporting. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the other side' and 'Apart from it', but they are sometimes used incorrectly or sound unnatural. The referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult to track which language or chart is being discussed. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, logical focus would enhance the flow of the report.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The range of vocabulary is limited and repetitive. There are several spelling errors, such as 'spakers', 'bretan', 'approximatey', 'leass', 'Occitian', and 'Alsation'. Additionally, word choice is often imprecise, such as 'slighty change' instead of 'slight change' and 'language speak' instead of 'language spoken'. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using more precise terminology for describing trends (e.g., 'fluctuated', 'remained stable') and ensure accurate spelling of the languages and terms mentioned in the prompt.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. Examples include 'the number of people... has been decreased with the numbers of 400 thousands', 'the later one is the leass spoken language', and 'Occitian language where almost 250 people speak'. There is a lack of control over sentence structure, and the misuse of articles and prepositions is common. While there is an attempt to use complex sentences, they are often faulty. Focusing on basic sentence construction and subject-verb agreement will help improve the accuracy of your writing.
