The charts below show the number of French adults whose parents spoke a French regional language to them when they were children and the number who speak a French regional language to their own children.

Write a report for a university lecturer describing the information below.

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The provided bar graphs illustrates the number of french adults (in thousands) whose parents talked to them in five various local languages either occasionally or daily, along with the number of adults who talked to their own children in these five languages.

Overall, Occitan was the most spoken occasional language between adults and their parents while the the number of parents who spoke habitually was almost the same for both Alsatian and Occitan. Similarly, Alsatian was the most used language between adults and their own children. On the other hand, Corsician was the least spoken language overall.

In case of adults who conversed with their parents in local languages on daily basis, Occitan accounted for just over 600 thousand speakers and the number of speakers for Alsatian was almost the same. Conversely, Breton shared about 250 thousand speakers, followed by Creole who had 100 thousand speakers.

For adults whose parents conversed in local languages occasionally, the number was highest for Occitan, at over 1 million. This was more than double the amount of parents who spoke Breton, at 400 thousand. Alsatian represented roughly over 200 thousand users who spoke it occassionally, follwed by Creole and Corsican at about 100 thousand.

For adults who used regional languages with their own children, Alsatian represented the largest share of speakers, at 400 thousand. The figure for Occitan was about 150 thousand less ( almost 250 thousand). Moreover, Breton, Creole and Corsican each accounted for less than 100 thousand speakers.
