Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by describing the main features and making relevant comparisons across the provided charts. An overview is present, highlighting that Alsatian and Occitan are the most used languages while Creole and Corsican are the least adopted ones. However, some parts are developed more fully than others. While the details regarding the first two languages are discussed with specific figures, the information concerning the remaining languages is sometimes vague, such as referring to 'the other three languages' collectively without sufficient individual breakdown. Nevertheless, the key trends and data points are accurately identified and supported by the visual information, aligning well with the expectations for this level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The report displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the information logically, moving from an introductory overview to specific details divided into sequential paragraphs. Cohesive devices are used to guide the reader through the data, such as 'Overall', 'First of all', and 'Secondly'. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or slightly faulty, and referencing can become unclear, as seen in dense sentences where pronouns and transitions are clustered together. Paragraphing is employed, but the internal flow within paragraphs could be improved to ensure a smoother progression of ideas from one data point to the next.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully conveying basic comparisons and numerical data using terms like 'dominant', 'remarkable drop', and 'marginal difference'. The writer attempts to use less common vocabulary, but this is accompanied by noticeable inaccuracies in word choice, form, and spelling, such as 'convesation', 'childern', 'throughly', 'pbserved', 'hebutually', 'langues', and 'adaptors'. These errors do not entirely impede communication, as the reader can still grasp the intended meaning, but they restrict the lexical score due to a lack of precision and frequent spelling slips.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting relative clauses and comparative structures. However, control over grammar is inconsistent. There are frequent errors in basic structures, articles, plurals, and prepositions, such as 'These bar charts illustrating the data...', 'where these individual's preferences... are showing', and missing articles before key nouns. Punctuation is also occasionally faulty. While these errors do not completely obscure the message, they occur with enough frequency to cause occasional difficulty for the reader and reflect the limitations typical of this level of grammatical control.
