Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, stopping abruptly at only 87 words. Furthermore, 14 words copied directly from the task prompt were excluded from the count. The student attempts to address the prompt by comparing the data between French adults' parents and their own children, but the response is far too brief and incomplete. Key features are inadequately covered, and the writing tails off mid-sentence, meaning the task is addressed only minimally.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

Information and ideas are not arranged coherently throughout the text. While there are some basic attempts at cohesive devices such as 'Overall' and 'Whereas', the overall progression is disrupted by the fragmented structure and incomplete sentences. Paragraphing is disjointed, and referencing between ideas is weak, causing the text to feel disjointed and lacking a clear logical flow from one point to the next.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The lexical range is basic and repetitive, utilizing words such as 'popular', 'common', and 'languages' repeatedly. There are noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and form, such as 'during habitually' instead of 'habitually' and 'the higher speaking language' instead of 'the most commonly spoken language'. These vocabulary limitations and inaccuracies restrict the precision of the response, though the general meaning remains partially understandable.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The grammatical structures used are very limited, and frequent errors distort meaning and cause difficulty for the reader. There are issues with verb forms and tenses, such as 'afterthat they speak', missing auxiliary verbs ('Alsatian were spoke'), and incorrect prepositions. Complex sentence attempts are frequently faulty, and punctuation errors further impede smooth reading, placing the grammatical range and accuracy firmly at the lower bands.
