Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response addresses the task only partially and presents some confusion in reporting the data. While you attempt to give an overview and mention the main trends, some of your information is inaccurate when compared to the charts. For instance, you state that 'the alsatian were highest among the categories and occitian stood second' in the second chart, whereas the chart shows Alsatian is indeed the highest at 400 thousand, but Occitian is actually 250 thousand, with lower figures for Breton, Creole, and Corsican. Furthermore, your descriptions of the first chart mix up the categories and rankings for habitual and occasional speakers, leading to under-developed and confused comparisons. To reach a higher level, you need to ensure that data points are accurately reported from the visual source and that key features, such as the highest and lowest values across all categories, are described without factual contradictions.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The organization of information and ideas lacks a clear overall progression. Although you have attempted to divide your response into paragraphs, the logical flow between and within paragraphs is frequently disrupted. Transitional devices are either missing or used inadequately, such as starting paragraphs with abrupt shifts like 'the below charts explains' without properly linking them to the preceding analysis. Additionally, referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow which chart or category you are discussing. To improve coherence and cohesion, you should ensure that each paragraph has a clear central topic, use logical sequencing words (such as 'in contrast', 'turning to', or 'overall'), and maintain clear, consistent signposting throughout the report.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

Your vocabulary is limited but minimally adequate for the task, allowing you to discuss the topic of regional languages, even though noticeable errors occur. You use basic terms alongside attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'habitually', 'occasionally', and 'descending order', but these are often accompanied by word choice and word form errors. For example, you write 'occitian' (spelling error) and misuse phrases such as 'recorded in lowest margin' or 'in decrement figure'. These lexical inaccuracies and occasional spelling mistakes cause some difficulty for the reader. To achieve a higher score, you should expand your range of functional academic vocabulary to describe data trends precisely (such as using 'the majority', 'significantly fewer', or 'respectively') and pay closer attention to correct word forms and spelling.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You demonstrate a very limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple or repetitively framed sentences with frequent grammatical errors. There are frequent issues with subject-verb agreement and article usage, such as 'the occitan were accounted for highest' and 'the corscian were found out to be lowest'. Furthermore, plurals and prepositions inside grammatical patterns are frequently mishandled, as seen in phrases like 'in both of categories of first chart' and 'in terms of increment'. These frequent errors can cause difficulty and strain for the reader. To improve your grammatical range and accuracy, you need to practice forming more complex sentence structures accurately, pay careful attention to singular and plural agreements with data categories, and reduce basic errors in articles and prepositions.
