Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
The response fails to meet the minimum length requirement, containing only 125 words, with 10 words copied directly from the prompt. While the student attempts to describe the charts regarding regional languages, the information presented is largely inaccurate, confused, and misinterprets the visual data. For instance, the text claims that Occitan spoken occasionally reaches 1.5 million and that Alsatian is about 400 thousand and becomes the highest, which does not accurately reflect the provided figures. The response lacks a clear overview and presents limited, poorly developed ideas. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed, with significant inaccuracies in reporting the data.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The response demonstrates some organizational structure by attempting to divide the content into introductory, body, and concluding paragraphs, but it lacks overall progression and logical flow. Cohesive devices are minimal, repetitive, and mechanical, such as the frequent use of 'In first graph' and 'In second graph'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the grouping of ideas is erratic and fails to create a coherent framework for comparing the data. Referencing and linking between sentences are weak, causing the information to feel disjointed and difficult to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and repetitive, featuring basic terms related to the task. There are noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word forms, such as 'spoked' instead of 'spoken', 'ny' instead of 'by', 'languge', and 'occitan' written with lowercase letters. The student attempts some less common vocabulary items like 'habitually' and 'occasionally', but these are often misused or paired incorrectly, such as 'adults parent'. While the meaning can sometimes be guessed, the lexical limitations and errors impede smooth communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The range of grammatical structures is very limited, consisting mostly of basic, repetitive sentence patterns with frequent errors. There are significant issues with verb forms and tenses, such as 'Occitan is became highest' and 'Alsatian were spoked'. Additionally, errors occur in prepositions and articles, including 'number o the highest rate'. Complex sentences are attempted but are heavily flawed. Frequent grammatical errors and poor punctuation cause noticeable difficulty for the reader and obscure the intended meaning throughout the text.
