Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, stopping abruptly at only 48 words. Because the text is severely incomplete, it only touches upon the task minimally. It mentions the general topic of the charts and attempts an introductory sentence, but it does not provide any description of the data, trends, or comparisons shown in the graphs. This results in a very partial and underdeveloped response to the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
The text presents a basic opening statement and attempts an overview using linking words such as 'Overall', but the severe brevity of the response prevents any clear logical progression or paragraph structure. Ideas are disjointed because the writing cuts off mid-sentence after only a few lines, making it impossible to establish coherent relationships between sentences and paragraphs. There is an attempt at referencing with 'this are spoken', but overall progression is absent due to the incomplete nature of the task.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is basic and limited, featuring spelling and word-form errors such as 'compairson', 'Alsation', and 'occasionaly'. There are also grammatical-lexical slips like 'spoken is in five regional languages' and 'this are spoken in habitually'. While the student attempts to name the specific languages from the chart, the restricted range and noticeable errors reflect a limited control of lexical features.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The student attempts a basic complex sentence structure in the opening sentence ('The bar charts illustrates the compairson of French language spoken by parents...'), but it contains a subject-verb agreement error ('charts illustrates'). The second sentence breaks down grammatically with 'this are spoken' (plural demonstrative with singular verb 'is' implied or incorrect agreement) and awkward prepositional usage ('spoken in habitually and occasionaly'). Overall, the range of structures is extremely limited due to the short length of the text.
