Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response identifies some relevant comparisons, including Occitan as the largest category and Corsican among the smallest, but it does not provide a clear overview of both charts or accurately report several figures. For example, Occitan spoken occasionally is about 1,065 thousand, not “almost 1.5m”; Alsatian spoken occasionally is about 240 thousand, not 250 hundred, and the figures for adults speaking languages to their own children are largely omitted. The report also ends mid-sentence and does not explain the second chart’s pattern. The response is 103 words, below the required 150, which further limits its coverage. To improve, summarise the main contrasts across both charts and support them with accurate, clearly expressed figures.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the information, with a comparison of habitual and occasional speech followed by “On other hand” to introduce another point. However, the response has no clear overview or paragraph structure, and the ideas do not progress through both charts in a logical way. The opening mentions two charts, but the body mainly discusses what parents spoke to children and does not clearly transition to the figures for adults speaking to their own children. Linking phrases such as “while” and “if we look” are used, but connections between comparisons are sometimes unclear. The final sentence is incomplete. Use separate paragraphs for an overview and the key details, and group comparable figures together.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some task-related vocabulary, including “habitually,” “occasionally,” “bar charts,” and “spoken,” so the reader can recognise the topic and intended comparisons. However, the range is limited and several word choices or spellings reduce precision: “popilarity” appears to mean popularity, although popularity is not the right term for chart figures, and “alsatiancreole” is unclear. Phrases such as “spoken below 200” and “600 hundred plus” are awkward and make the quantities difficult to interpret. Aim for standard data-reporting expressions such as “stood at,” “approximately,” and “the lowest figure,” and use the language names consistently and accurately.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts some longer sentence forms, for example the sentence beginning “The language which spoken habitually…” and the contrast introduced by “while.” However, these structures are often faulty, and most sentences do not show secure control. Examples include “There are two bar charts who illustrates,” “language which spoken,” and “if we look occasionally spoken language,” where relative clauses and verb forms are incomplete or incorrectly formed. Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also inconsistent, as in “200.while,” and the final sentence is unfinished. These errors sometimes make relationships between the figures hard to follow. Build accuracy with clear simple patterns first, such as “Occitan was spoken occasionally to about 1,065,000 children,” then add controlled comparisons.
