The charts illustrates the comparison of French language spoken to the adults by their parents and the numbers of language to their own children. Overall, the five languages was carried from older generation to next, while the number is measured in thousands.
In the first chart, the adults reported that Occitan was spoken more often occasionally whereas habitually was spoken less approximately around 1m and 600 thousad , respectively. In contrast, other languages like Alsatian and Breton had second highest number ranging at 600 thousand

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
The response identifies the chart’s general subject and makes a relevant comparison: Occitan has the largest occasional figure, while its habitual figure is lower. However, it reports very little of the data and does not describe the second chart showing adults who speak these languages to their own children. The statement that “the five languages was carried” is also too vague to serve as a clear overview, and the comparison of Alsatian and Breton is incomplete or unclear. The response is substantially below the required 150 words, leaving the task only minimally addressed. To improve, give a clear overview of the main patterns, then compare key figures across both charts, including the sharp decline from childhood exposure to speaking a language to one’s own children.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic attempt to organise the report: an opening sentence and overview are followed by a paragraph beginning “In the first chart.” The linking phrases “Overall” and “In contrast” also show an effort to connect ideas. However, the response ends abruptly and has no paragraph describing the second chart, so there is no complete progression through the information. Some connections are difficult to follow, particularly “whereas habitually was spoken less approximately around 1m and 600 thousad,” which does not clearly distinguish the two figures. Develop a separate paragraph for each chart and use clear comparisons, such as “Occitan was spoken occasionally by about…” followed by the corresponding habitual figure.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The response uses some relevant chart vocabulary, including “comparison,” “occasionally,” “habitually,” “ranging,” and “measured in thousands.” These terms show an attempt to describe frequency and quantities. However, several phrases are imprecise or unnatural, such as “the numbers of language to their own children” and “the five languages was carried from older generation to next.” “Second highest number” is also not clearly attached to a particular category or figure. There is a spelling error in “thousad.” Aim for precise reporting language and accurate collocations, for example “the number of adults who spoke each language” and “passed on to the next generation.” Naming the figures and categories directly will also make your vocabulary more effective.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both a complex opening sentence and an overview, but grammatical control is inconsistent. For example, “The charts illustrates” has subject–verb disagreement, while “the five languages was carried” has incorrect agreement and an unclear passive construction. The phrase “habitually was spoken less approximately around 1m and 600” is difficult to parse because the comparison is not formed clearly. Sentence structures are mostly limited, and the response does not demonstrate a reliable range of accurate forms. Practise building clear comparison sentences, such as “Occitan was spoken occasionally by about 1.06 million adults, compared with roughly 620,000 who spoke it habitually.” Check agreement, articles, and the structure of passive sentences when editing.
