Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the two comparisons and include an overview, noting that Alsatian and Occitan are prominent and that fewer adults pass Creole and Corsican on to their children. However, the overview is not consistently accurate: Breton is also relatively high in the childhood figures, while Occitan’s occasional figure is the largest at about 1,065 thousand. Several details are misreported: Alsatian is about 240 thousand when spoken occasionally, not 250; Breton is about 260 thousand habitually, not 600; and the figures for adults speaking languages to their own children are approximately 400, 250, 90, 80 and 60 thousand respectively. The report addresses the charts but selects and describes data only partially, with some comparisons unclear. Prioritise accurate key figures and a concise, data-based overview.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has an introduction, an overview, a paragraph of details and a conclusion, so there is some attempt to organise the report. However, progression within paragraphs is difficult to follow: the overview combines childhood figures with transmission to the next generation, and the detail paragraph shifts between languages and chart series without a consistent pattern. Linking expressions such as “On the other side,” “However” and “Moreover” are used, but they do not always show the relationship between the information clearly. The conclusion largely repeats the overview rather than adding a useful summary. Group the two charts separately, compare the languages in a consistent order, and use clear references such as “In the first chart” and “In the second chart” to guide the reader.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-related vocabulary, including “spoken habitually,” “spoken occasionally,” “ratio” and “in conclusion,” which helps communicate the topic. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural. “French native language” is not the same as “regional language,” while “kids” and “peoples” are too informal or unsuitable for this report. Repeated use of “higher” and “lower” also makes comparisons imprecise; figures should be described as larger or smaller, or as the highest and lowest. Spelling errors such as “illustarte,” “propotion,” “langauges” and “ocassionally” are noticeable and sometimes slow the reader. Use precise chart vocabulary and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
There are attempts to form longer sentences and use contrast, but complex constructions are often faulty, and sentence boundaries are not controlled consistently. For example, “By contrasting spoken habitually and ocassionally…” is a fragment, while “However French adults whoes parents spoke two french native langauge … is more then other three langauges” has an unclear subject and faulty agreement. The opening sentence also repeats “the proportion” without a clear grammatical comparison. Missing punctuation after introductory phrases and inconsistent capitalisation further affect readability. Build each comparison around a clear subject and verb, for example, “Occitan was spoken occasionally to about 1,065,000 adults.” Practise accurate simple sentences before combining them with clauses.
