Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

The response makes a brief attempt to introduce the charts and identify an overall pattern, but it does not adequately describe the information. The claim that occasional speaking increased and habitual speaking decreased is not supported: the charts compare adults’ childhood experiences with whether they now speak a regional language to their own children, rather than showing change over time in the same categories. No language-specific figures or meaningful comparisons are reported, and the second chart is not described. The response also stops after “From the given statistics, it is apparent that,” leaving the report incomplete. It is substantially below the required 150 words. To improve, give a clear overview and compare the main figures across both charts, using accurate examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5

There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an opening sentence is followed by a general observation, and “From the given statistics” appears intended to introduce further detail. However, the report ends at this point, so there is no developed progression or conclusion, and the relationship between the two charts is not made clear. The opening sentence is also difficult to follow because it combines several ideas without a clear structure. Use separate paragraphs for the overview and key comparisons, and connect them with straightforward links such as “By contrast” or “Regarding the second chart.” Completing each idea before moving on would make the report easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response attempts some task-related vocabulary, including “bar chart,” “information,” “overall,” and “adults,” so the reader can recognise the general topic. However, inaccurate spelling and word choice frequently weaken clarity: “french yousters,” “occationally,” “stastics,” and “increament” are not appropriate forms. Phrases such as “the section of adults” and “speak French” are also imprecise for describing regional-language data. Build a reliable set of chart-reporting terms and check spelling carefully. More precise choices such as “number,” “habitually,” “occasionally,” and “regional language” would help communicate the data accurately.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

There is an attempt to use more than one sentence pattern, including the introductory clause “At a first glance” and a sentence beginning “From the given statistics.” However, grammatical control is inconsistent. The opening sentence has an unclear structure, especially “the number of French … or the children who spoke occasionally with their children,” and the phrase “when they were child” lacks correct number agreement. The final sentence is incomplete, ending with “it is apparent that,” without a main idea to complete it. Capitalisation and punctuation are also unreliable, as in “regarding, The” and “It” after a comma. Practise complete, direct sentences and check agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries.
