Write a report for a university lecturer describing the information below.
Number of adults (in thousands) whose parents spoke a regional language to them in childhood
Student answer (Band 4.5)
Given illustrations have been broken down into two parts of three different charts. One part shows how frequently or occassionally parents spoke to individuals when they were children in french regional language and in other part the number of individuals who speak in french regional language to their children.
Amongst all the language groups, the Occitan language has stood out to be the most spoken by parents to their then children now adults quite occasionally and at par with Alsatian who spoke habitually.
While the Occitan language has gained much of the highlight, the Alsartian langauge has been found surprisingly to be the most spoken to by the parents who were then children when their parents spoke to them in regional language habitually or on occasions.
Although multiple group of regional language graphs have been shown that have produced a variety of results on the frequency of their use and transfer to next generations. It is also important to understand that these carried out results may have built on the factors still unknown to us.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response identifies a relevant overall feature: Occitan is prominent in occasional parental speech, while Alsatian is prominent in habitual speech. However, it does not adequately describe the charts or compare the figures, and some claims are inaccurate. Alsatian was not the most spoken language across both categories: Occitan was spoken occasionally to about 1,065,000 adults, compared with roughly 240,000 for Alsatian. The report also omits the key pattern that the numbers speaking each language to their own children are lower, with Alsatian highest at about 400,000. The final comment about unknown factors is unsupported by the visual. To improve, give a clear overview and select accurate figures to compare across both charts.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the response, moving from an introduction to comments on the language groups and then a concluding statement. However, the ideas do not progress as a clear report: the second and third paragraphs repeat and partly contradict the point about which language is most prominent, while the final paragraph introduces speculation rather than summarising the data. The opening refers to “two parts of three different charts,” which does not clearly orient the reader to the two comparisons shown. Linking phrases such as “While” and “Although” are used, but they do not establish reliable relationships between the ideas. Group the information by chart or by key comparison, and use a concise overview followed by specific supporting details.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The response shows some range beyond basic vocabulary, including “frequency,” “highlight,” “variety of results,” and “transfer to next generations.” These choices indicate an attempt to describe patterns and change. However, several expressions are awkward or imprecise for a data report, such as “stood out to be the most spoken,” “gained much of the highlight,” and “built on the factors still unknown to us.” There are also spelling errors in “occassionally,” “Alsartian,” and “langauge,” which reduce accuracy. Prefer direct, conventional chart language, for example, “had the highest figure,” “was spoken occasionally,” and “the number fell.” Accurate language for quantities and comparisons would make the report clearer and more appropriate to the task.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts some complex sentence forms, including “While the Occitan language has gained…” and “Although multiple group…,” but control is inconsistent. The opening sentence is difficult to parse because “two parts of three different charts” is not expressed clearly. In “the Alsartian langauge has been found … to be the most spoken to by the parents who were then children,” the clause structure obscures who is speaking to whom. The final sentence beginning “Although” is a dependent clause without a complete main clause, so it reads as a fragment. There are also issues with number and agreement in “multiple group … have produced.” Use shorter, complete sentences with clear subjects, and check clause structure and agreement when adding complex forms.
