Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the two broad measures and include an overview, noting that Occitan is prominent in childhood and Alsatian leads for speaking to children. However, the report only partially covers the data: it gives almost no figures for the second chart, and the claim that Alsatian was the most commonly spoken language in childhood is not supported, since Occitan was highest for occasional use. Some figures are also inaccurate or unclear, such as saying 600 adults spoke both Alsatian and Occitan habitually; the chart shows about 600 for Alsatian and 620 for Occitan. The response is 119 words, below the 150-word minimum, which limits the detail and comparisons you can provide. Include key figures for both charts and compare the largest and smallest categories accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic structure: an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs about childhood speech and speaking to children. This gives the reader some sense of how the information is grouped. However, progression within the paragraphs is not always clear, and several links are awkward or incomplete. For example, “In contrast Creole and Corsian were almost same” does not specify which figures are being compared, while “In terms of children Alsatian used the most and least was Corsiacn” ends the report without supporting detail. Connectors such as “Whereas,” “While,” and “On other hand” are sometimes used without a complete or well-linked sentence. Organise each chart’s figures in a clear order and use linking phrases to show precise comparisons.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “habitually,” “occasionally,” and “spoken,” and you attempt to distinguish childhood use from language passed on to children. However, the range is limited and several word choices or spellings make the meaning less clear. “A French” in the introduction does not express the intended idea, and “Corsician,” “Corsian,” and “Corsiacn” are inconsistent spellings of Corsican. Phrases such as “highly spoken language” and “used the most” are also imprecise for describing chart values. Use accurate terms such as “largest number,” “most commonly spoken,” and “spoke the language to their children,” and check the spelling of all category labels.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast with “Whereas” and a comparison introduced by “In contrast.” However, grammatical errors are frequent and sometimes make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. Examples include “when they were child,” “adults spoke … and Occitan habitually” (which leaves the intended subject and comparison unclear), and “Alsatian who adults used to spoke,” where the relative clause and verb form are faulty. Several sentence fragments also appear, such as “While Breton was spoken by 250 adults” and “While Creole and Corsican used by only 100 adults.” Work on complete sentences, subject–verb structure, articles and plurals, and use “used to speak” rather than “used to spoke.”
