Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

You identify the two charts and include an overview noting that Occitan is prominent, but the report is far too incomplete to describe the information adequately. The overview incorrectly says habitual figures for Occitan and Alsatian are equal: they are about 620,000 and 600,000, respectively. The detail paragraph also misreports several values and categories: Corsican and Creole habitual figures are about 85,000 and 105,000, not 190,000 and 200,000, and the figures for Breton and the other languages are not clearly assigned. You do not report the chart showing adults who speak a regional language to their own children. The response is 60 words, so it does not meet the 150-word minimum. Include both charts, accurate comparisons, and a fuller overview.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is a basic structure: an introduction, an overview beginning “Overall,” and a paragraph of details. This gives the reader some sense of the report’s purpose. However, the response ends after one short detail paragraph, with no organised comparison of the second chart and little progression between the figures. The long final sentence lists several languages but does not make the relationships between their values clear. Use separate paragraphs to present the overview and then compare the main patterns in each chart; grouping the largest and smallest figures would also make the information easier to follow. The limited linking and unclear sequencing mean the ideas are not yet arranged coherently throughout.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “regional language,” “habitually,” and “occasionally,” and the reader can generally recognise the topic. However, the range is limited, and several word choices or forms make the report difficult to interpret. For example, “parents spoken habitually with 190 adult” and “were communicate” do not express the intended chart information naturally. “Talk in” is also imprecise for describing language use. Spelling and capitalisation errors such as “french,” “equl,” and “whoes” are noticeable. Build a small set of accurate reporting phrases, such as “the number of adults whose parents spoke…” and “spoke the language occasionally,” and check spelling and language names carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts a complex opening sentence and uses an overview sentence with a contrast, showing some effort to combine ideas. However, grammatical control is weak and errors frequently affect clarity. The opening has subject–verb disagreement in “The charts illustrates,” while “number of adults whoes parents…” lacks an article and contains an unclear relative clause. In the final paragraph, “parents spoken habitually with 190 adult” and “200 were spoke” have faulty verb forms and sentence construction. The response relies on a few long, poorly controlled sentences rather than demonstrating a reliable range of structures. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then add clauses—for example, “Occitan was spoken occasionally by about 1.065 million adults.”
