Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the two chart topics and include several relevant comparisons, such as Occitan being spoken occasionally by over one million adults and Alsatian being spoken to children by about 400,000. However, the overview is incomplete and partly inaccurate: Corsican and Creole are not the least-used languages in both childhood categories, since Breton is also low and Creole is not always the lowest. The report also confuses who speaks to whom: “3 lacks parents speak breton to their children” does not match the chart, which shows about 90,000 adults speaking Breton to their own children. Several figures and comparisons are omitted or unclear. The response is 135 words, below the 150-word minimum; the 21 words copied from the prompt are excluded from the count.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic attempt to organise the report: an opening sentence, an overview, and further details. Some linking expressions, including “Overall,” “Furthermore,” and “moreover,” help signal relationships. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the report moves between childhood speech and speaking to children without clearly separating the two chart measures. The sentence beginning “More then 1 million…” combines figures and categories in a confusing way, and “While” is used without a clear contrasting clause. Paragraphing is also limited, and several ideas are joined with punctuation that does not show their relationship. Group the information by chart and use clear comparisons to create a more logical sequence.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some relevant chart vocabulary, including “bar charts,” “regional language,” “habitually,” and “occasionally,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or spellings make the report less clear, such as “alsation,” “creoie,” “langyages,” and “1 lack.” The phrase “more than 1 million thousands” is also inaccurate and confusing; use “more than one million adults.” Repetition of “language” and “spoken” limits variety, while phrases such as “most popular” are not precise for describing chart quantities. Aim for accurate terms such as “the highest figure,” “the fewest adults,” and “spoke the language to their children,” and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, but grammatical control is inconsistent, and errors sometimes make the intended comparison difficult to understand. For example, “when they are child” has an incorrect noun form and tense, while “alsation and occitan language was” has problems with agreement and number. The fragment “More then 1 million… Which was closely followed…” is not a complete, well-connected sentence, and “400 thousands adults who speak…” lacks a main verb. Articles and sentence boundaries are also often missing or misplaced. Practise writing complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check agreement, articles, plural forms, and punctuation before finishing.
