Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is often debated that whether people in the past generation face more difficulties compare with today people their maodern life make their life more stressful. While other argue that today modern stress is simply exaggerated. I belive that modern stress constantly make their life much more difficult.

On the one hand, today people face more difficulties in life because with the rapid evolution of technology and the wide spread of internet. In the past people have to complete their task at workplace they did not need to carry it at home but now people will get the notification related to work through emails, messages even at night. However, these create mental pressure in their minds, they don't get time to relax and spent quality of time with their families. Futhermore, the social media often compares them with other. For example, they compare their life with money, life style and luxury things. When people share post in social media. They see photos of rich, perfect or happy lives and feel bad about their own situation.

On the other hand, many people believe that of people of past generation face difficulties in their life such as war, deadly disease, extreme poverty no better medicine or the government support. Moreover, the word "stress" these dont exist back then. Subsequently, people accept their hardtimes as a normal part of their life.

In conclusion, i believe our ancestors face lot of physical difficulties and harder more dangerous phase in their life. Consequently, modern world create a differnt kind of mental worries that never stops. These makes stress much more wide spread in today life

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both views and state your own position: the opening says modern stress makes life more difficult, while the conclusion recognises that earlier generations faced physical hardship but argues that modern worries are persistent. The discussion of work notifications and social-media comparison gives relevant support to the modern-stress view. The opposing view is also identified through war, disease and poverty, but it is less developed: explain more clearly how these pressures affected people’s daily lives and why the absence of the term “stress” does not necessarily mean people felt less strain. Your position is present, though the opening wording is difficult to follow. More balanced explanation and clearer development of the comparison would strengthen the response further.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. “On the one hand” and “On the other hand” help signal the change in perspective, and the examples about work messages and social media follow the relevant claims. However, some links are mechanical or unclear. For instance, “However, these create mental pressure” has an unclear reference, and “When people share post in social media” is left as an incomplete sentence rather than being smoothly connected to the following idea. The conclusion also repeats the contrast without fully tying the examples together. Use clearer referencing and connect each example explicitly to the point it supports.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “mental pressure,” “social media,” “extreme poverty,” and “government support,” so the main ideas are generally understandable. There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “rapid evolution of technology” and “quality of time with their families,” but some combinations are unnatural or imprecise. Spelling and word-form errors such as “maodern,” “belive,” “Futhermore,” and “differnt” are noticeable, while phrases such as “compare their life with money” make the intended meaning less clear. Build accuracy by learning common collocations and checking spelling; for example, describe people as comparing their lives with others’ lifestyles or possessions.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a reason clause beginning “because” and a contrast introduced by “While.” However, control is inconsistent, and several sentence patterns are faulty enough to make parts difficult to follow. Examples include “whether people in the past generation face more difficulties compare with today people,” where the comparison and verb forms are not controlled, and “the word ‘stress’ these dont exist back then,” which has an unclear subject and verb structure. There are also agreement and sentence-boundary problems, as in “These makes stress.” Practise accurate past and present forms, subject–verb agreement, and complete clauses. Proofreading each sentence for a clear subject and verb would improve accuracy.
