IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some societies, stress is now regarded as a major problem, and it is thought that people suffer from more stress than they did in the past. However, others feel that the amount of stress people have today is exaggerated. They say that previous generations were under more pressure, but the idea of suffering from stress did not exist.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
People have different views about stess is currently addressed as one of the big issues and there is a thought among people that previously individuals felt less stressed that now. However, these days the portion of mental stress people take is harmful as well as, I believe in the last generations the concept of suffering from anxiety did not exist even though there were more pressure.
There are number of reasons why people felt less stressed in the previous days is in the back the monetary issue people go through now were not this much higher. As the inflation rate is increasing rapidly it is really hard for people to live a life without being worried. In one survey it found that, in some South Asian countries for example Bangladesh and India people borrow money in every last week of month which they repay after getting the salary and this is a loop. Furthermore, individuals go through several health issues in current time because as before we do not get the pure neutratious food, which increases the tension of being sick.
On the other hand, the amount of mental pressure some persons take is really injurious to health. As we all are running to achieve a better future the hunger of reaching to a pre determined goal is more important than taking care of our own stess. in addition, it is a proved survey that people can feel better and much relieved if they talk to someone who is close to them but it is quite hard to maintain after a busy scheudule and repeating the same routine everyday.
In conclusion, previously everyone used to ignore that fact about the side effect of taking a lot pressure so they were okay with the fact as they had the privilege to cope with it differently and currenlty for some particular circumstances it ts really tough to not feel pressure which is also making the health of mental worse.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both perspectives and give a view, particularly in the opening, where you suggest that current pressures are harmful while earlier generations faced pressure without describing it as anxiety. The discussion of rising living costs and health concerns is relevant, and the example of borrowing before payday helps illustrate financial stress. However, the two views are not consistently distinguished: the first body paragraph begins by explaining why people felt less stressed in the past, then mainly describes present-day pressures. The second paragraph also focuses on current stress rather than clearly explaining why some people believe it is exaggerated. Your conclusion introduces the idea that earlier people coped differently, but this point is not developed. Make your position explicit and support each side with a clearly focused explanation and example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs signalled by “Furthermore” and “On the other hand,” and a conclusion. This gives the reader some guidance through the discussion. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear: the first body paragraph shifts from past stress to inflation and then food quality without clearly linking these points to the view being discussed. Some linking expressions are awkward or do not show the relationship precisely, and the conclusion combines several ideas in one long sentence. Use topic sentences that identify each viewpoint, then develop one main idea at a time. Clearer referencing and more controlled transitions would make the overall argument easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You attempt a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “inflation rate,” “mental pressure,” “health issues,” and “cope,” which helps communicate the subject. There are also attempts at less common expressions, such as “pre-determined goal.” However, inaccurate word choice and collocation are noticeable and sometimes make meaning less clear. For example, “the portion of mental stress people take” is not a natural way to describe the amount of stress they experience, and “the hunger of reaching” is an awkward expression. Spelling errors such as “stess,” “neutratious,” and “scheudule” also reduce accuracy. Build a reliable set of natural collocations for discussing stress, finances, and wellbeing, and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “because,” “even though,” and “if.” However, complex structures are often faulty, and errors can make relationships between ideas difficult to understand. For instance, “There are number of reasons why people felt less stressed in the previous days is…” combines incompatible sentence patterns, while “in some South Asian countries … people borrow money … which they repay” has unclear reference. There are also recurring problems with articles, agreement, verb forms, and sentence boundaries, as in “there were more pressure” and the lowercase “in addition” after a full stop. Practise building shorter, complete sentences first, then add subordinate clauses while checking that each clause has a clear subject and verb.
