IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some societies, stress is now regarded as a major problem, and it is thought that people suffer from more stress than they did in the past. However, others feel that the amount of stress people have today is exaggerated. They say that previous generations were under more pressure, but the idea of suffering from stress did not exist.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
It is often argues that people now-a-days suffer from stress more than people in past while a majority also thinks that stress in modern era is just "exaggerated" and previous generation suffered more from stress.
I think of it as stress can't be measured by any era it is any persons ability to deal with work and handle problems. It is a person's mental capability while modern era tend to be mentally weak meanwhile most of the people from past have seen some major phases, problems and wars that made their mental ability strong and their ability to handle problems more firm.
similarly, the modern era suffers from stress due to a great amount of work load in offices and not getting peace from home.while in the olden days mostly people had to work way less and the economy was good which led to cheaper things and an easier life.
"Stress" is viewed as a major health problem meanwhile, it is occured when we get really tired and work beyond our limit.Thinking about a problem repeatedly can cause stress and it can effect physical health.
So,the best solution is to handle problems with critical thinking and don't let it effect yourself.Walking in open places and spending time in nature and parks can bring a lot of betterment to the condition. It is not something that can be compared from era to era But,it is something that is varied from person to person based on their mental ability to handle problems. All of us should treat it with peace and time so it doesn't effect our personal life.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You address both views by referring to modern workloads and to the pressures faced by earlier generations, and you give a personal position: stress cannot be compared directly across eras because people differ in their ability to cope. However, the discussion is only partial. The claim that earlier people had “way less” work and an easier life is broad and is not supported with a specific example; it also sits uneasily beside your point that past generations experienced wars and major problems. The paragraph on stress and coping offers advice rather than developing the comparison requested. Make your position explicit in the introduction, explain each view with balanced examples, and connect your conclusion directly to which view you find more convincing.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some organisation: the response moves from an opening statement to your view, then discusses modern and past pressures, and ends with suggestions for coping. However, the overall progression is not consistently clear because the central comparison gives way to a general explanation of stress and then to advice. Linking words such as “similarly,” “meanwhile,” and “so” are used, but some do not show the relationship between ideas accurately; for example, “similarly” introduces a contrast between modern and past working conditions. Several ideas are crowded into long paragraphs, and punctuation makes boundaries difficult to follow. Use separate paragraphs for the two views, your opinion, and the conclusion, and choose linking expressions that precisely signal contrast, cause, or result.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant vocabulary, including “work load,” “mental capability,” “critical thinking,” and “physical health,” so the reader can follow the general topic. However, the range is limited and several noticeable word-choice or collocation errors make parts less natural, such as “stress in modern era,” “bring a lot of betterment,” and “treat it with peace and time.” Repetition of “stress,” “problems,” and “ability” also limits precision. Some expressions are too broad to support the argument, including “the economy was good” and “work way less.” Aim for more precise language about pressures and coping, and check common collocations and word forms. For instance, “improve the condition” is more natural than “bring a lot of betterment.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts some longer structures, including “while” clauses and the sentence beginning “It is a person's mental capability,” but the range remains limited and complex sentences are often faulty. Frequent errors include “It is often argues” instead of a correctly formed passive, “it is occured,” and “it can effect physical health.” Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also inconsistent: several sentences run together after full stops, and commas are missing around clauses. These problems sometimes make the reader pause to interpret the meaning. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then build longer sentences with clear clause structure. Pay particular attention to verb forms, articles, and separating complete sentences with appropriate punctuation.
