Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence.

Student answer (Band 6.5)

some people believe that the stress is more prevailing in modern generation while the other advocates that it was also present in the past but they were not familiar about the situation. I largely agree with this statement that with the improvement of healthcare system and the advancement in modern diagnostic and research technologies, the professionals and the researchers have successfuly provided new information about the pshychological issues like stress whereas in the past, due to the lack of the knowledge the people were treated un appropriately without knowing the actual causes of the disease.

With the advancement in modern healthcare facilities and better research techniques, the scientists have been able to find the causes and cure of the physical as well as the psychological diseases which are not apparently visible but can destroy the mental health of an individual. For example, the stress is a psychological disease which is due to the over production of the stress harmone in the body. The production of this horomone is might be due to the overthinking, workload, dissatisfaction and fianancial crises. Nowadays, the modern research not only helps to diagnose the root causes of these issues but also give solutions by proper medical assistance which can be helpfull to recover the individuals.

In the past, although, the stress and frustration were present but the people were unaware of it due their limited knowledge, lack of proper healthacare facilities and less accessibility to the health professionals, they were used to treat by quacks and untrained professionals which may not be able to understand the exact reason of the disease. Thats why these diseases had remained untreated in those generations.

In conclusion, I believe that the stress is not a new phenomenon which was not present in the past but due to the lack of proper diagnosis and basic healthcare facilities, they were not treated properly. However, the modern generation have the priviledge of having access to the modern techniques and healthcare professionals through which they can easily take proper treatment.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both views presented in the prompt and provides a clear personal opinion. You successfully argue that stress is not a new phenomenon but rather one that is now better understood due to medical advancements. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive. While you mention that past generations were treated by 'quacks,' you could have strengthened the argument by providing more specific examples of historical pressures, such as economic instability or lack of social support, to contrast with modern stressors. The position is consistent throughout, but the depth of analysis could be improved to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'For example,' 'In the past,' and 'In conclusion,' to guide the reader. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel repetitive. For instance, the start of the third paragraph ('In the past, although, the stress...') is slightly clunky due to the punctuation and structure. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between the two viewpoints would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'psychological issues,' 'diagnostic,' and 'phenomenon.' However, there are several spelling errors and word-choice inaccuracies that detract from the quality, such as 'pshychological,' 'successfuly,' 'un appropriately,' 'harmone,' 'horomone,' and 'priviledge.' These errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning. To improve, focus on proofreading for common spelling mistakes and try to incorporate more precise collocations to express your ideas with greater sophistication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the stress,' 'the modern generation') and verb forms ('they were used to treat by quacks'). Some sentences are slightly awkward, such as 'The production of this horomone is might be due to...' which contains a double verb error. While these errors rarely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of passive voice would be beneficial.
