You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent years, people are obsessed with more comfortable life as they want to earn more money for buying the comfort. Many individuals believe that stress is the key problem in today's generation rather than past while others argue that, old generations were faced more stress as compare to youngsters. In my opinion, I agree with both views as I believe that, stress is a common factor for individuals either past or present day.

First and foremost, in present time, people are focusing to earn more and more money as everyone is looking for a wealthy lifestyle. The primary reason for getting stressed can be over thinking. Moreover, overthinking can cause disturbing sleep cycle as well. For example, I am working with an Export company and it is about all sales. I have to handle all the team members of sales and marketing department. I am the responsible person for any success or drawbacks as well. For that, I do overthinking all the time even at bed time also and it cause lack of sleep. This cycle is the main reason for my stress.

On the flip side, old generations were focused about too many things at a time such as, family responsibility, financial responsibility, education, career prospects and so on. Hence, prior generations were more under pressure as compare to today's generations and because of these roles they felt stressed at that time. For instance, my father was the only person who was earing for whole family at the age of 15. Besides, he completed his graduation and he also did several jobs to take care of his family.

To conclude, stress is common factor with every generations. In my opinion, in past generations, they felt stress as they had to do a lot while today's youngsters want to make more money so it cause more stress.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you provide a personal example regarding your job, the discussion on why previous generations were under more pressure is a bit generic and could have been expanded with more specific societal context. The conclusion is brief and essentially repeats the introduction without adding new insight. To reach a higher band, ensure that each body paragraph fully explores the implications of the arguments rather than just stating them, and provide a more nuanced synthesis of the two views in the conclusion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'First and foremost', 'Moreover', 'On the flip side', and 'To conclude'. However, some of these transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear (e.g., 'this cycle' refers back to a specific personal situation rather than the broader argument). The flow between sentences is generally smooth, but the connection between the personal anecdote and the general argument could be tighter to improve the overall cohesion of the essay.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but lacks sophistication. You rely on some repetitive phrasing, such as 'earn more money' and 'stress'. There are also some collocation errors, such as 'obsessed with more comfortable life' (should be 'a more comfortable life') and 'at bed time also' (should be 'at bedtime'). While you attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'financial responsibility' and 'career prospects', the range is somewhat limited. To improve, try to incorporate more precise synonyms and idiomatic collocations to demonstrate a wider range of lexical control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'old generations were faced more stress as compare to youngsters' (should be 'faced more stress compared to'), 'it cause lack of sleep' (subject-verb agreement error: 'it causes'), and 'stress is common factor with every generations' (article and pluralization errors). While these errors do not impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. Increasing the accuracy of basic grammar and refining the use of articles and prepositions would significantly improve the score.
