IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some societies, stress is now regarded as a major problem, and it is thought that people suffer from more stress than they did in the past. However, others feel that the amount of stress people have today is exaggerated. They say that previous generations were under more pressure, but the idea of suffering from stress did not exist.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
In this generation amount of stress would increase on daily basis as compare to previous generation . I think so this is done because of use of mobile phones and other electronic item which give them enjoyment. New generation will spend most of the quality time on mobile phone or internet and they are becoming lazzy and don't do any work so previous generation also have phone and they spend some time on phone but also they can do their work they have potential to do work
And don't even get stressed because they didn't take pressure of work they done their work with relax mind and don't get the patient of stress
But now in this new generation they will became much more lazzy and become stressed day by day and also become the patient of stress they use medicine of relaxation which are not good for them to use this type of medicine. So I truly think that this impact only for massive use of mobile phone which can control their mind and they think that if this work not done I got depressed and stressed but they don't know this only their thinking which make them more stressed if they reduce their usage of mobile phone they become healthy and work hard
I have an example of that topic my friends comes to me and tell me that my girlfriend break up with me and I can't live without her I got very sad after the few day when I met her he is totally depressed and her condition is to much bad and this done by taking stress of their relationship
So my opinion is that don't take any thing heavy to your mind so you never become stressed.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing both views, but the development is limited and often repetitive. The argument focuses almost exclusively on mobile phone usage as the sole cause of stress, which is a narrow interpretation of the topic. The personal example provided regarding a friend's breakup is anecdotal and lacks the analytical depth required for an academic essay. Furthermore, the position is not clearly sustained throughout; the essay relies on generalizations about 'laziness' rather than exploring the sociological or historical context of stress as requested by the prompt. The ideas are under-developed and lack sufficient support.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a clear structure. There is no introduction or conclusion, and the response is presented as a single, poorly organized block of text. Cohesive devices are either missing or used incorrectly, such as the repetitive use of 'and' to join unrelated clauses. Paragraphing is absent, making it difficult for the reader to follow the progression of ideas. The transition between the discussion of previous generations and the current generation is abrupt, and the lack of logical sequencing significantly hinders the flow of the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, relying on a limited range of words such as 'stress', 'work', 'mobile phone', and 'lazy'. There is little evidence of an attempt to use less common or academic vocabulary. Errors in word choice, such as 'patient of stress' instead of 'suffering from stress' or 'medicine of relaxation' instead of 'sedatives' or 'stress-relief medication', occur frequently. These errors occasionally impede the reader's understanding of the intended meaning. The range is insufficient to express complex ideas with precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that affect clarity. There are significant issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'my friends comes to me'), tense consistency (e.g., 'they will became'), and sentence structure. Many sentences are run-on or fragmented, lacking proper punctuation. The use of complex structures is attempted but is consistently inaccurate, leading to confusion. While the basic meaning is generally discernible, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevents the essay from reaching a higher band score.
