You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Stress among young generations has become the major topic of discussion in recent years. Some people believe that in recent times, there is a substantial growth of stress -taking individuals as compared to the previous times. However, others opine that in recent era the amount of stress people taken has been enormously enlarged. This essay will discuss both the viewpoints regarding the amount of stress people faced in modern and past times, and also will present my opinion with reasoned justifications.

On the one hand, the most prominent factor attributed to stress in recent times is the social media. People are not only using digital platforms to elevate social interactions but also they mimic the ways people dress, the way they talk and the standards of modern lifestyles trending in the market. This leads to have detrimental impacts on both the mind and the body. For instance, teenage girls specifically follow the latest trends of fashion their peers are taking on Facebook, and if they fail to carry on with the same fashion, started taking stress. A frustating environment can also be felt among individuals, who are unable to bring fortune to their family in their workplaces. an individual looking at other peers who are getting big rewards and celebrations for the work done usually get distressed, while looking at the podcasts and on other digital platforms.

Another noteworthy pressure is put forwarded by the family members in recent times. Mothers specifically compare the marks and results of their children with other children, provoking frustation and suffocation in immature minds.

However, many people contend that the amount of stress felt in modern times is far lesser when compared to the past times. In past, people follow the traditional ways of dressing and living, do not admire fast forward lifestyles. Adults for example were mandate to follow their traditions religiously without any alterations. Children were also supposed to follow the rules of their predecessors. Consequently this lead to the development of stressful environment among individuals and young children. Moreover, older generations were not blessed with certain essential needs of life. They had to work hard to feed larger families, with no resources of travel and education. In past times, people had to travel distant places in search of food and education, and even to the severity were unable to meet families for ages.

In conclusion, although I believe that older generation faced numerous challenges and burdens in terms of their every day routines and lifestyles, as they were deprived of many basic necessities, I firmly believe that in todays era the people are quite worried and scared due to the ongoing competitions in terms of jobs, education or fashion. Although the stress imposed on them is a result of their own exaggeration, I believe that with a positive mindset and a resilience to face troubles can lead to the solutions of relieving oneself from stress and anxiety.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the impact of social media and the historical hardships of previous generations. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat uneven. For instance, the discussion on social media is well-supported with examples, but the section on family pressure is brief and lacks depth. The conclusion effectively summarizes the main points and reiterates the writer's stance. To reach a higher band, ensure that all arguments are equally developed with specific, logical evidence rather than relying on generalizations about 'modern' versus 'past' times.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. Cohesive devices are used throughout, such as 'On the one hand,' 'However,' and 'In conclusion,' which help guide the reader. However, there are instances where the flow is slightly mechanical or the referencing is unclear, such as the transition between the discussion of social media and workplace stress. Additionally, some sentences are slightly disjointed, such as 'Consequently this lead to the development of stressful environment,' which could be improved with better linking words to show the causal relationship more fluidly.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, including terms like 'detrimental impacts,' 'noteworthy pressure,' and 'resilience.' There are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'stress-taking individuals' instead of 'stressed individuals' and 'amount of stress people taken has been enormously enlarged.' These errors do not impede communication, but they do highlight a lack of precision. To improve, the student should focus on learning common collocations and ensuring that word forms (e.g., 'frustrating' vs 'frustating') are used correctly in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the writer attempts complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb tenses and subject-verb agreement, such as 'In past, people follow the traditional ways' (should be 'In the past, people followed') and 'an individual... usually get distressed' (should be 'gets distressed'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor errors with article usage and spelling (e.g., 'frustating'). Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear throughout the response, and the errors do not significantly impede the reader's understanding.
