IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some societies, stress is now regarded as a major problem, and it is thought that people suffer from more stress than they did in the past. However, others feel that the amount of stress people have today is exaggerated. They say that previous generations were under more pressure, but the idea of suffering from stress did not exist.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence.
Student answer (Band 4.5)
what is stress? As per my opinion, the stress is new terminology that u dont have solution for the problem and spend too much time in overthinking.
and it becoming very easy and covinent to people say that there in stress because there is no way measure the stress
Now let's talk about the older generation there is no doubt they work very hard because there is no technology and facilty that we have now because new inventions in technologies that make life easier but it not compelety true they were in more stress then now because people at time was very simple for example there is no problem like career choice if the father is potter and son is also become the potter.
, they had very simple selection in their food which was followed by their ancestors.
The amount stress is increase in new generation because they have more opportunities in their career selection, they are not following the same career path as their parent did this new path in their life also create a new challenges, daily choices in food are very creative and unique and their way to measure the stress due development in science human can understand the problem of stress clearly and also finding their to handle the stress in daily life.
So, I conclude that stress is very serious problem that causing the great impact on all people effect their physical and mental health and difficult to overcome in today world. so the idea of stress are not over exaggererated and should not be taken lightly.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both views required by the prompt—that stress is a new, serious problem and that it might be exaggerated compared to past generations—while also providing a personal conclusion. However, the development of ideas is limited and somewhat simplistic. For instance, the argument about past generations focuses solely on traditional jobs like potters without fully exploring broader societal pressures of the past. The position is discernible at the end, but the reasoning throughout lacks depth and rigorous support. It meets the basic criteria for Band 5 by addressing the task partially and presenting ideas that are somewhat underdeveloped.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The text suffers from significant structural and mechanical issues. Paragraphing is poorly handled, with run-on sentences, missing punctuation, and capitalization errors (such as starting sentences with lowercase letters like 'what is stress? As per my opinion...'). Cohesive devices are either missing or misused, leading to a lack of logical progression between sentences and ideas. For example, the transition between discussing older generations and the new generation is abrupt and grammatically disjointed. There is no clear overall progression of argument, which aligns closely with the Band 4 descriptors for cohesion and paragraphing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic, repetitive, and heavily impacted by informal conversational style and spelling errors (e.g., 'covinent' instead of convenient, 'exaggererated' instead of exaggerated). The student attempts some less common terms like 'terminology' and 'opportunities', but frequent errors in word form and choice—such as saying 'there in stress' instead of 'they are under stress'—strain the reader's understanding. The range is limited and minimally adequate for conveying very basic thoughts, fitting the Band 5 level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
Grammatical control is weak throughout the essay. The text relies heavily on simple structures or faulty complex sentences joined by comma splices and run-on structures, such as 'if the father is potter and son is also become the potter., they had very simple selection...'. There are persistent errors in subject-verb agreement, tense consistency, and punctuation. The high frequency of basic grammatical errors causes noticeable difficulty for the reader and places the response firmly at Band 4.
