Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—that stress is a major modern problem and that previous generations suffered more under pressure without naming it—and provides a clear position in the introduction and conclusion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the discussion on modern technology causing stress among children and adults is supported by a generalized claim about Japan, but lacks deeper extension. Similarly, the argument about past generations facing physical demands without machinery is stated clearly but remains somewhat underdeveloped. The reasoning is occasionally blurred by imprecise phrasing, such as claiming that past generations 'suffer stress more than present due to fever facilities'. While the requirements of the prompt are generally covered, the depth of argumentation aligns best with Band 5.5 to 6.0; therefore, a score of 6.0 is awarded as all parts of the prompt are touched upon with relevant, albeit simplistic, ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph structure, including an introduction, two body paragraphs representing opposing views, and a conclusion. Transitional markers such as 'To begin with', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' are utilized to guide the reader through the text. However, cohesion at the sentence level is frequently faulty and mechanical. There are issues with referencing and cohesive ties, such as the awkward transition 'because of that numerous individuals are suffer' and repetitive sentence openings. Furthermore, paragraph internal progression is sometimes hindered by run-on sentences and a lack of precise conjunctive links. These weaknesses in cohesive control and referencing place the performance firmly in the Band 5.0 category.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating topic-related words such as 'anxiety', 'technology', 'generations', and 'farm work'. However, there are frequent errors in word choice, morphology, and collocation that detract from the overall quality. Examples include 'In recent era' instead of 'In recent eras', 'are suffer' instead of 'are suffering', 'fever facilities' instead of 'fewer facilities', and 'For intense' instead of 'For instance'. Less common lexical items are attempted, but they often lack accuracy and natural control. These persistent vocabulary and spelling errors, while not completely impeding communication, cap the lexical score at a Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response exhibits a very limited range of grammatical structures. While there are some attempts at complex sentences using subordinating conjunctions like 'although', 'because', and 'while', these structures are frequently faulty and poorly controlled, leading to major structural errors and run-on sentences. For example, the opening sentence is a single, grammatically tangled complex construction containing numerous agreement and tense errors. Simple sentences also contain basic mistakes, such as modal and auxiliary verb misuse ('did not have advanced technology... for that they had to spend'). Punctuation is weak, with comma splices occurring frequently. Due to the high frequency of grammatical errors and the lack of accurate complex structures, the writing falls into the Band 4.5 to 5.0 range, warranting a 5.0.
