In some societies, stress is now regarded as a major problem, and it is thought that people suffer from more stress than they did in the past. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
A significant amount of people thought stress is the main cause of people suffering while others thinks thought that the amount of stress the people having today is over exceeded. The previous generations were facing more pressure the stress doesn't exist. I can discuss the both point of views and given my own opinion at end.
In the first paragraph a certain group of people thought that the current generation feel more stress, anxiety and suffer more rather than the previous generations, due to fact that the main cause is there is a lot of societal norms, family pressure, career tension and achieving their dreams in this fast moving world. Technological shift is a bigger part of the stress. The AI can replace many of human jobs with automation. The new generation can update themselves with new skills and technologies. If so, they have to compete and survive in this fast moving world.
The next point states that the other group of people opinion that they have working and facing more pressure. The stress didn't exist at that time. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—that stress is a major modern problem and that it is exaggerated compared to the past—and provides a concluding personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is limited and somewhat simplistic. For instance, the discussion on technology and AI mentions that 'The new generation can update themselves with new skills and technologies', but this point is not fully extended or linked back clearly to the prompt regarding stress levels. The position is stated towards the end rather than maintained throughout the essay. The essay meets the minimum length requirement, but the superficial exploration of arguments places this performance firmly at Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The text shows some overall organisation with distinct paragraph breaks, though the logical progression is frequently disrupted by awkward transitions and unclear referencing. The opening paragraph outlines the essay's structure using formulaic phrasing ('I can discuss the both point of views and given my own opinion at end'), which is metalinguistic rather than natural discourse. Cohesive devices are often inadequate or inaccurate, such as 'The next point states that the other group of people opinion that they have working and facing more pressure', leading to choppy and sometimes confusing connections between ideas. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion is weak. This corresponds to a Band 5.0 for coherence and cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with noticeable errors that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. Examples of awkward word choices and collocation errors include 'over exceeded', 'the stress doesn't exist', and 'searching of Job'. The student attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'societal norms' and 'automation', but these are overshadowed by frequent lexical inaccuracies and grammatical forms treated as vocabulary (e.g., 'point of views'). The range is minimally adequate for the task, reflecting a Band 5.0 level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The response features a very limited range of grammatical structures, and attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty. There are persistent errors in tense, subject-verb agreement, and article usage throughout the text, such as 'A significant amount of people thought', 'others thinks thought', and 'Everyone suffering according to their problems'. Punctuation and sentence boundaries are also problematic, particularly in the final paragraph where sentences fragment. These frequent errors cause strain and difficulty for the reader, matching the descriptor for Band 4.0.
