Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both views on stress—that modern life is more stressful versus the idea that previous generations faced equal or greater pressure—and provides a personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is limited and somewhat superficial. For instance, the discussion of modern stressors mentions relevant points like living expenses and workload, but they are presented in a breathless, list-like manner without sufficient elaboration or clear exemplification. The conclusion is also very brief and lacks strong summarising power. The writer attempts to cover all parts of the task, but the execution reflects the characteristics of Band 5, where ideas are limited, under-developed, and the overall position, while discernible, lacks clear structural framing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay displays some basic organisation, utilizing transitional phrases such as 'On the onehand' and 'On the otherhand' to signal shifts in perspective. However, overall progression is weak. Paragraphing is problematic, as the main body contains exceptionally long, run-on sentences that combine multiple ideas without appropriate breathing room or logical transitions. Cohesive devices are frequently inaccurate or used mechanically, such as 'Futhermore' and 'Moreovere'. Furthermore, referencing and punctuation are weak throughout, creating a dense block of text that is difficult to follow. This level of organisation aligns closely with Band 5 descriptors, where some overall structure exists, but cohesion is inadequate and repetitive.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student demonstrates a limited but minimally adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common topic-related terms such as 'exaggerated', 'expenses', and 'competitions'. However, there are frequent spelling errors ('amoung', 'otherhand', 'Futhermore', 'Futhermore', 'sittuations', 'genertations', 'takel', 'technologyes', 'patiances') and awkward word choices ('living items' instead of 'living costs'). These noticeable errors and misspellings frequently distract the reader and occasionally cause difficulty in comprehension, placing the vocabulary firmly in the Band 5 category.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

Grammatically, the response shows a very limited range of structures. The student attempts complex sentences, but these are almost universally marred by faulty syntax, missing articles, and run-on structures. For example, sentences such as 'Mainly the societies contains a many majore roles to be performed by the individuals in this generations where nowadays the expenses...' demonstrate severe control issues with subject-verb agreement, pluralisation, and clause linking. Punctuation is largely neglected, with comma splices replacing full stops. Because frequent grammatical and mechanical errors cause significant difficulty for the reader, this performance corresponds to a Band 4.0 or weak 5.0; a score of 4.5 is awarded to reflect the severe strain placed on communication.
