Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum length requirement of 250 words, containing only 94 words. Consequently, the task is addressed only minimally and remains severely under-developed. While the student attempts to acknowledge both views and state a personal opinion in the introduction, the body paragraph breaks off abruptly before any arguments are fully articulated or supported with evidence. To achieve a higher band score, the candidate must ensure they write at least 250 words and fully develop each main point with detailed explanations and relevant examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The text demonstrates some basic organisational structure by introducing the topic and attempting a transition into the main body using phrases like 'The one main reason'. However, because the response cuts off mid-sentence in the second paragraph, overall progression is severely disrupted. Paragraphing is incomplete, and cohesive devices are rudimentary and mechanically applied. To improve in this area, the writer needs to structure their essay into a clear introduction, well-developed body paragraphs with distinct central topics, and a concluding summary, using a wider range of logical connectors.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with noticeable word choice and collocation errors such as 'the stress is becoming a main problem', 'suffer more stress in their past', and 'they give heart to their loved ones easily'. The attempt to use less common vocabulary like 'subsequently' and 'overrated' shows some ambition, but overall control is lacking, and spelling errors like 'subseqeuntly' occur. The limited range of vocabulary is barely adequate for the task.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0

The response contains a very limited range of grammatical structures. There are frequent errors in tense usage, article placement, and sentence construction, such as 'they had suffer more stress', 'the before generation', and 'from mentally'. Furthermore, the run-on sentences lack accurate punctuation and grammatical control. The severe grammatical inaccuracies and incomplete sentences frequently impede communication and strain the reader's understanding.
