Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The student attempts to address the prompt regarding the two views on stress and gives a personal opinion, primarily focusing on causes and solutions rather than directly discussing the historical comparison requested by the prompt. While the introduction outlines the essay's direction, the main body paragraphs drift towards discussing causes and solutions rather than deeply debating whether previous generations suffered more or if modern stress is exaggerated. Ideas are somewhat limited and repetitive, which places the response at Band 5.0 according to the descriptors for addressing the task only partially and having under-developed ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the overall logical progression is flawed. The thesis statement promises causes and solutions rather than discussing the two opposing views presented in the prompt. Furthermore, cohesive devices are frequently missing, misused, or poorly punctuated, such as 'On the other hand there are several ways to overcome on this issue people should maintain...' leading to run-on sentences and a lack of clear relationships between ideas. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion is weak and mechanical.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is generally basic and repetitive, with several instances of awkward word choice and spelling mistakes, such as 'awidespread', 'oppotrtunities', and 'overstate todays era'. The student attempts some less common vocabulary like 'contemporary society' and 'counselling services', but lexical control is lacking. Errors in word formation and collocation ('overcome on this issue', 'affecting ways of adressing') noticeably restrict precision and cause occasional difficulty for the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response features a very limited range of grammatical structures, with frequent punctuation errors, missing commas, and run-on sentences (e.g., 'On the other hand there are several ways to overcome on this issue people should...'). Simple sentences are often poorly constructed, and attempts at complex structures frequently result in grammatical errors and missing subjects or verbs. Errors are frequent and can cause strain for the reader throughout the text.
