Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

The response sits at this band because it only partially addresses the task and fails to meet the minimum length requirement of 250 words, coming in at 187 words. While the writer touches on the idea of stress being a major problem today due to financial issues and unemployment, the discussion of the opposing view—that stress is exaggerated and previous generations suffered more—is entirely omitted. Furthermore, the position is not clearly maintained throughout, and the ideas presented are limited and under-developed, relying on brief, disconnected assertions such as 'oversleeping can also cause stress' and 'poor people have five children' without proper support or extension.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5

The response shows some basic organization, but there is no clear overall progression or logical structure. The text is written as a single, dense block of writing without appropriate paragraphing to separate different ideas, such as the causes of stress versus government solutions. Cohesive devices are largely absent or inadequate, with sentences linked mechanically using repetitive connectors like 'and also'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the lack of cohesive progression means the reader struggles to follow a coherent argument from one point to the next, placing it firmly at this level.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey basic concepts related to the topic, such as 'financial crisis', 'unemployment', and 'economy'. However, there are noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and word form that cause some difficulty for the reader, such as 'overthinker' instead of 'overthinkers', 'stable economy' instead of 'stabilize the economy', and 'sucide option' instead of 'suicide'. The writer attempts some topic-specific terms, but frequent inaccuracies in word formation and spelling restrict the lexical range and prevent the response from achieving a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

Grammatical control is characterized by a very limited range of structures, consisting mostly of simple and faulty complex sentences. There are frequent errors in grammar, punctuation, and agreement that cause difficulty for the reader, including missing articles ('due unemployment', 'has five children'), incorrect verb forms ('if a poor people have'), and severe punctuation issues such as lowercase beginnings of sentences and improper semicolon usage ('for example; if a poor people'). Attempts at complex sentences are consistently flawed, and fundamental errors persist throughout almost every sentence.
